We are planning on our first trip to Bonaire with plans on doing a lot of diving and relaxing. Our original plans were to go from Oct. 10-20. I see that there is the Bonaire Regatta during this period. We usually like to take a trip around this time because it is usually much less crowded in most places in October. Will the Regatta bring in many more visitors? Our travel dates are flexible. P.S. I just found this site and the information everyone shares is awesome. Can't wait!!!

Al, welcome to Bonaire Talk There have been discussions about Regatta on BT a few times, either you love it, or loath it! Personally, I went one year, and won't go during Regatta again. Too crowded for me. A lot of folks from Aruba and Curacao come over, town is crowded 24/7. It won't affect the dive sites, but going into town is a pain (for me). I don't like crowds on vacation ;-) Here are a couple links with both liking, and not liking

Hi!! I am one of the "likers". Regatta is one time of year when there is actually a bit of excitement at night in Bonaire. I don't find it so crowded. I like the locals and the bands and the bit of Bonaire style pomp that goes along with the ceremonies. Also, it happens to fall near the coral spawn which I like to be present for. You might want to check on the dates for that.... I haven't gotten that far! Regatta and the Reefs Birthday are great times to be in Bonaire. But I don't think there could be a bad time. Very hot in Sept and Oct. And not much breeze....... makes the regatta that much more of a challenge !!!
