Is it me or has the taste of the tap water changed over the past week or so? About a week ago it started tasting 'metalic' and now it tastes 'soapy'. I always used to love the water straight from the tap but now I add 'tiptop' (grenadine) or get water from the fridge (filtered). We live on the hill (Republiek). Is this a local issue or does it affect the whole island?

I should add I was thinking of bringing a water sample to the US to be tested...something is awry but I have too many other things going on to stop and work on this..no house gas having paid for weeks, internet, tv issues...car issues...

A funky metal taste in water is normally due to the presence of Aluminium Sulphate. This is used in the treatment of the raw water and when they MESS UP the concentration gets too high. There is a limit of 0.2 mg Al per litre placed by the WHO and too much Aluminium does have negative health impact.

Makes me glad I have my three staged water filters to take out all the iron and dirt here in Belnem too. I did notice the taste at a local restaurant a couple of days ago though.

Pauline,

It's three of the water filters you can get at Kooyman's, placed in series, with the first canister holding a 20 micron filter, the second a 5 micron filter, and the third holding a 1-2 micron filter.

Has anyone called and reported this to the appropriate person. I know that Boanire is not the states, but when ever I have had a problem with our local town water, they have come to the house at once or told me what the probelm might be. Are they flushing the sytem etc??

Some times the water here in DC tastes like rotten eggs or puke or something. I'd rather not even boil pasta in it as I'm sure the effect is not transparent. I wonder how many chemicals actually get caught up in the finished product. Yikes! I'll be in Bonaire May 26 to June2 at the Plaza.

We in Belnem have reported the problems we have with our water to WEB countless times. They come to flush the pipes, but it doesn't help. Last word was that they were replacing the old (assumedly rusty) pipes, but that was a year ago. Meanwhile I change my filters every 4-6 weeks.

Bruce - Plaza makes its own desalinated water as far as I know.

funny,,,,we just got a letter from our local water company NJ American Water. It said water samples showed 8.2 percent turbidity...(cloudiness)?
Standard should be 0.3.
But it goes on to state, Your water is safe to drink...in bold letters...
Turbidity has no health effects. Turbidity may indicate the presence of disease-causing organisms. Including bacteria, viruses, and parasites that cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea and headaches.
Is that not a health effect....?
I will be calling them in the AM...

Hi, Meryl! Maybe all of the heavy rains lately caused the issue....I never drink the tap water in NJ...Joe works at a waste water treatment plant here so I know what comes in and what goes back out for all of us to consume....bottled water now.

Will you be going to Bonaire soon?

Hope the water is back to the wonderful sweet and refreshing water soon as we will be down there shortly! cb
