Does anyone know where there is a bottle return or recycling station on the island? It just slayed my husband and I to throw a case of Amstel Bright empties into the garbage.

My understanding is that they have re-started recycling for commercial premises (bars and restaurants) but I tried taking bottles back to the Warehouse and was told they did not accept empties. Anyone got an up to date status ???

You can drop off glass in any of the yellow recycle containers. I do anyway.

I know that Hamlet Oasis has bins out. They are the big yellow ones. It surely cuts back in the amount that does into the dumpsters.

that brings up another point--where does Bonaire place the garbage? We took the road south to the lighthouse and checked out the beaches there--they are covered in plastics. Any comments on this?

Bonaire does have a disposal area. It is on the road past the animal shelter. I have been told that the waste we see piled up on the eastcaost comes from South America. Several times a year there are beach clean ups. Maybe this would be a good job for those young people who would like to stay out of trouble.

I keep one glass bin out in front of the hotel. People staying in nearby apartments are free to use it. All I ask is two things:

1) GLASS ONLY!
2) Take a peek inside before you dump. If you see that the person before you was too stupid to follow rule number 1, either move the trash to the dumpster or let me know. Don't just dump glass on top of it.
