The average water temperature on Bonaire is 80 degrees per Bonaire-Travel Guide.com.

Not enough water the last few months for the frogs to be singing. We need a lot more rain!.The tourist are singing though.

Bill,

I see from your profile your are an Ice Dive Instructor. It is not that cold here if you are looking to start a class on Bonaire.

I have been finding some mid 70's temperatures in the thermoclines at Lac Cai.

Most all my other dives have been in the 80 degree(F) range.

Water temp from the Bonaire Webcams has not been available for some now, and I don't know of anywhere else that you can find current water temp on Bonaire. Too bad, because IMHO saying that it averages 80 degrees doesn't help much; the difference between, say, 78 and 85 degrees is quite a bit in terms of perceived (and actual) warmth. I'm sure someone who lives on island could be more specific, but in my experience both on island and in reading posts here on BT, it goes something like this (and it can vary considerably from this depending on lots of factors): the water temp bottoms out sometime around February or so, typically at a bit under 80 (say, 78 or 79, but some years a few degrees colder), maxes out in something like late October/early November at 83 or 84 (and in recent years, perhaps more like 85 or 86), and spends most of the time in between these extremes fluctuating around the 80 to 82 degree mark. All this is for the water temp from the surface down to at least 60 feet or so; thermoclines are simply not part of MY dive profile on Bonaire! My numbers and dates are probably a bit (or perhaps a lot!) off the mark, so I'm hoping that maybe someone will chime in with some more accurate info.

I think Bruce Bowker's website on Bonairean weather , air & water temperature says it best...

"Bonaire's Really Official Weather, Water Temperature and Water Current Report
This report applies to all days of any year, even including leap year. So as an example, if you have to know what the water/air and vis will be the week of July 9, please read on.
This weather report is as precise as anyone could ever get. This weather report fits any day of any year on Bonaire. Just find out which day you are interested in and here is the report.
Temperature during the day - about 84 but could be higher or lower. At night probably around 80 but could be a bit higher or a bit lower.
Rain - it might, it might not. Possibly cloudy some days with lots of sun. Chances of cloudy all day are slim but possible. Chances of no clouds at all are slim but possible.
Wind - usually around 10 mph but could be higher or lower.
Wind usually from the East but could change.
Seasons - there really aren't any. Probably will rain a bit more towards the end of the year but might not. Probably won't rain much middle of the year but could.
Since weather is nature and nature does what it wants, this weather report is accurate for any day. Any variations are variations and totally unpredictable. Its nature. Its weather.
Water temperature about 80 but can be 2 degrees higher or lower on average.
Can even be higher or lower than those 2 degrees difference but unusual - not impossible.
Water clarity changes daily and from site to site. Can be good. Can be not as good. Can even be great. It is nature and unpredictable.
Currents can be left or right. Can be negligible or somewhat strong. Currents can change at any time. It is nature and unpredictable.
The author of the above is a creation of nature and therefore can be unpredictable."

I was getting 78-79 a couple of days ago. I will be going in later today if it stops raining. I just hate getting wet!

I've found a website which posts water temps for around the world. They have info for the area right around the ABC islands and sometimes Bonaire itself. I am not entirely sure where the data is from, I think it might be ships reporting it, but it is generally pretty accurate.
