Hi everyone,

I have a very independent cat, Mamma, who has been gone two weeks today. She is small and black with wide spread eyes. She may be in Belnem or Lima. I will ask the moderators to post her photo as I do not know how. Please help me find Mamma.

Ann,

Is Momma a traveler? For the last two or three days we've had a visitor that looks just like her. But we're up in Sabadeco! She has the most pitiful meow and is very bold, just waltzing into our house, dumbfounding our two kitties who are usually quite defensive.

Saw her last about 8 am today and fed her, but she's not around right now.

Any other identifying info you can give us? Next time she comes around, we'll hang onto her.

You can call at us 4314.

Good luck,

Thanks Roger and Marcia, they do indeed have a lovely black cat but alas NOT Mamma. Marcia will post a photo soon so we can find Jane Doe Cat's owner. She is a lovey and in good hands til she can get to the shelter. I would have taken her but Maggie gave me the evil no more pets glare. Awell...I guess 5 cats and 2 dogs is quite enough...

Not only is it not Momma, its a Pappa ... shoulda look earlier!

This cat must belong to someone; well behaved, fur in good shape and very friendly. Hope someone claims it before we have to take it to the shelter.

Not going to bother with a picture as it really does look like Momma.

Rodger, we have 11 cats, 3 black ones. Two are young males. Your house is only 150 yards from ours. So the cat that is visiting your place must be ours. Does it have a curl at the end of his tail?
So, don't bring him to the shelter. Better not feed him too. By the way, at the moment we are missing a big red cat.

Herma, Glad thats settled! I knew he had to belong to someone... a very nice kitty that does indeed have a curl at the end of his tail.

We'll tell him you said not to feed him and send him on his way. I think its now in our cats paws to defend the turf.

Now, if Mamma would just get her act together!

Cheers,
Roger & Marcia

Herma, I have to have Maggie talk to Boy and have him convince her it's ok to have more than 5 cats..glad that mystery is solved..now for best news..I got an early Xmas present! Mamma just appeared at the door. She has a nice shiny coat and looks FINE but she ate two cans of cat food as well as a bunch of dry food. Now she is cuddled up next to Maggie watching the Denver Broncos Cinn. Bengals game. She loves football.

:-)

We had a cat missing for about 5 days - thought the worst - but our neighbors came home after a long weekend, opened their garage door, and there he was! Hungry, but none worst for the wear. (But where would anyone on Bonaire go for a long weekend?!)

Oh Ann, this is great news! We're very, very happy for you and Maggie. Nevertheless: the more cats, the more worries. Last month one of my cats was missing for more than a week. I thought she was gone for ever, but then to my big surprise there was suddenly a note hanging at the Warehouse supermarket that she was found after hit by a car and brought into the Veterinary Clinic Nikiboko. So miracles do exist!
All of my eleven cats were home for a couple of weeks, but now my big red cat is missing. He's really big for a Bonarian cat (he must have European ancestors). So please, if you've seen a friendly big red cat in the Sabadeco Area, call 7176938. We miss him very much!
By the way, Roger's little visitor wasn't one of mine. So, if you miss a black male cat(not castrated) give Roger a call.

Bon Pasku all,

Tis the season for missing black cats! As Herma said, Blackie is not hers, so the search continues. We do seem to have a streak of good BT luck going, so we'll hope for the best.

Blackie is medium weight, kinda skinny and lanky with a slight curl or bend in the end of his tail. He's got one white whisker, otherwise all black. Has a bit of the Siamese cat look; long pointy face. He talks all the time and is very affectionate. I think someone is missing him very much.

Cheers,

Hey Roger, you sound like you are becoming attached to "Blackie". I bet your kitties and Marcia could get used to him - after he is neutered of course:-)

Yes, yes, yes, my big red cat "Roodje" just came home after 5 day's! I'm so happy! This is the perfect X-mas gift.
Now, we just have to find a (new) home for Blackie!
Thank you all for your support and nice words.

Sadly, we're going to have to take Blackie to the Animal Shelter today.

He is a sweetie with humans, but is beating up on our resident cats Tai & Chi (sisters from the shelter), who come first in our affections.

He'll get a thorough checkup and neutering and have a pleasant home (and maybe learn to socialize with other cats), while waiting for adoption.

If you live on Bonaire and are even considering a pet, please pay a visit to the shelter as they have many cats and dogs equally deserving of a home. Juri does an outstanding job with this difficult task; Its clean, spacious and as well run as any shelter I've seen anywhere in the world. We should all be proud of and support this wonderful endeavor.

Cheers,
Roger & Marcia

Roger - I agree with you about the shelter. I couldn't think of a better place to bring Blackie. Having spent time at the shelter on a recent visit I know he'll get lots of attention. I also think Juri does a great job. The shelter is the best I've ever seen. Herma and Ann -So happy that Mama and Roodje have come home! Can they be kept in the house so this doesn't happen again?

Roger - Marcia, I am saddened to read that Blackie was being antisocial. Tai and Chi are beautiful:-)

Thanks all. Good news to report: Arriving at the shelter they knew immediately who Blackie belonged to. About a week ago Blackie and his sister were scared off by fireworks. The sister got taken to the shelter almost immediately by a neighbor of ours. As we speak, the reunion should be going on.

Of course, the way this saga has gone on so far, I would not be surprised at another mistaken identity, but looks like a happy ending.

Yea!

Let's keep our fingers crossed! Good work, Roger.
Sue, I believe a cat needs freedom and space. Luckily they're all good hunters and I've seen them drinking water from the pool, so I don't have to worry about that.
Roodje came home, ate, and left again. My family is here for vacation, so I think it's just too crowded for him. He'll be back.

Annie...great news!...guess she just took a holiday! We lost our Jake for two years! When we lived in Ocean City they had fireworks on the beach 3 times a year. He ran off and someone took him in and kept him as an inside cat.
When they had to move they gave him to the shelter. The shelter called us cause they knew him from always walking on the boardwalk.
He was returned to our daughter while we were on Bonaire for vacation. When we got home it was a wonderful reunion!

I'm so glad there's a happy ending. One of the joys of my trips to Bonaire is spending time at the animal shelter --- I go to pet the cats. They are treated so well there, but it's still better to have a home of your own.

My two bonaire kitties (Sunshine and Moonbeam, adopted almost two years ago), are well settled in Rochester, and I will miss them while I'm away. I'm blessed with being able to spend six weeks away, but I miss my furry babies while I'm gone --- the animal shelter helps me get a "kitty-fix!"
