There is a small group of Spanish speakers that are trying to learn English. Any one who has real basic books that is willing to share them would be greatly appreciated. Thanks..I will make arrangements to get them sent here.

Michael, I have a bunch of books that I need to go through from my teaching days. I'll put aside any that might be good. I'll also call our local school district and see if they have any old books they need to get rid of.

Michael,

Could you give me a better idea or a couple of examples of what you define as a basic book? Thanks

A step or two above Dick & Jane...The idea is to get them used to seeing the printed word..then reading and hearing it spoken..

Michael, I'm calling our local school district today:-) What about children's reading books (the kind parents read to their small children). Not "school books" per se, but Fairy Tales, etc.

I think a wonderful series would be "Magic Treehouse". They are geared to grades 2-3 reading level, but the contents are interesting to keep older kids/adults reading. The series tracks a few kids that go back in time to historical events (alot of US history, but there are some dinosauers thrown in). I think the series is up to #40. In paperback these books are $3-4 each new. I picked up a lot of 10+ on ebay last year for $10.

I've known people who look at a newspaper as they watch CNN, or hear the news on a radio.

Hope this helps
