Well, I am probably jumping the gun because she's only been missing since last night, but when she stays out all night she's always waiting for me when I get up, and i'm hoping that as soon as I post this she'll come walking through the door :-). Her name is Buya and she's a black tortie, hopefully wearing a black collar with rhinestones (yeah, I know but she looks really good in it) and a gold tag. She is missing from Sabadeco (Villas). If you see her, please call me at 717.2620 or 791.3736 or if you can't reach me please call Jane Madden at 786.2849. I will attempt to post some pics.
Thanks!!!
Alex

Maybe she found a hot date last night and just can't say Good Bye yet. My Chippie (calico cat) used to take off for three days at a clip and I would worry so much, then she would walk in the place like where's my food? I need a petting, now and all. Hope the same works out for you, but sooner.

Oh Alex, I'm sorry to hear your kitty has gone walkabout :-(. Keep the good thoughts going, my business partner's cat just returned today and he had been gone for 2 months!

Let us know what happens!

Keep the faith.

Alex,

You might inform the Shelter on the odd chance that someone will take her there.

If you're going to make posters, I can send you the "Lost Cat/Reward" description in English, Dutch & Papiamento, but hopefully she'll come back before Xerox opens Monday. Walk your neighborhood at dusk/night, shaking a bag of her treats, take a flashlight to look into nooks (they can get in smaller places you can imagine), pause & listen for her, talk to every neighbor you can, and keep calling her name (even if she doesn't know/acknowledge her name, she'll know your voice). Also, drive everywhere you can in your neighborhood, slowly, and calling her name. Besides the Animal Shelter, keep in touch with Selibon (sorry to mention that, but it's something you need to know here).

Thank you all for the support--it means a lot. I have scoured the neighborhood but no luck yet. Hopefully now that it's dark & cool she'll head home. The Shelter is closed until Monday, as I imagine Selibon is (thanks for the tip, Ruth, I had thought of it but of course I am hoping it won't come to that...)

I'll keep you all posted & please keep the happy thoughts coming.

Alex

she's back!she's back!she's back!

She's pretty banged up and stiff and sore but she's here! I'll give her a few hours to rest before poking her anymore, but I'm hoping it's nothing major.

Thank you all so much for the support!!!

Alex

Alex I am so happy that Buya is back to her home.. could she have been locked in someplace?? and had to claw her way out??? Or is she just a dirty little stayout?? worrying her family terribly!!! Glad she is back safe and almost sound??

Hi Freddie,

If I had to make a guess from her injuries I would say she was stuck someplace rather than in a fight. She's certainly not telling though! She does seem very happy to be home. She's not generally a terribly affectionate cat, but I get the impression she would like me to stay in bed with her and watch her recuperate. And who knows, she may just get her wish :-)

Great news, we hope she recovers quickly.

We have a set of cats at Habitat that we paid to have spayed and always look after them when we are in Bonaire.

Thank you all!

Brian,
When we first founded the Foundation Animal Welfare Bonaire (www.fawbonaire.org) one of my first priorities was looking into the situation of the 'hotel cats'. Thanks to generous souls like yourselves and some very caring resort managers, I was pleased to find that the are with rare exceptions healthy, vaccinated and of course neutered. Thank you!!

Alex

Alex - I am sooooooooo glad that she is home. Having our Monty gone for 35 days and returning home (thank God) but having lost 7.5 lbs and having many problems I can appreciate the worry. For us Monty is now completely healthy and the same pain in the neck that he was before he left. But we love him for it.

Mara,

I had a cat named Monty, he was a honey! So glad he came home to you and is healthy again. I cannot imagine Buya losing 7.5 pounds--then she'd be -1.5! She is a petite Bonairean kitty :-). Let's hope she and Monty stay close to their respective homes from now on!

This is great news to see, Alex! I know Buya is very glad to be home again and she just might become "affectionate" for a little while, too....just a wee little while...she doesn't want anyone to get too "used to it"! LOL. Please keep us posted as to her healing progress. Bright white light coming her way now...Carole

To the Buya Fan Club (or perhaps more appropriately the Alex Support Group):

The patient is resting comfortably, eating well, finally peed (she would be so thrilled that I shared that) and her wounds are doing ok, so...I think she'll live :-)!

I told her that she has people all over the world concerned for her well-being. She was suitably unimpressed and no doubt expects nothing less. What do you want, she's a cat!

But I am most grateful.

Alex
