My next-door neighbor just came by to ask me about a sticker that was placed on her gate on few days ago. It said that some kids would be trick-or-treating in the neighborhood TOMORROW and that she should have candy available. We didn't get a sticker or note. Is this customary? Should I buy some candy? It all seems a bit strange to me....

What about on Halloween, will kids be trick-or-treating?

I have never had a trick o treater in Bonaire..nor have I seen any..Habitat usually has a Haunted House. Halloween is not really celebrated in Bonaire.

Thanks, Ann. I wasn't expecting any trick-or-treaters, especially in the middle of the month. Maybe someone was playing a joke on my neighbor. This is her first Halloween on Bonaire too, so we were both confused.

There's usually a group of kids organized (by whom I've lost track) who "Trick or Treat" downtown along Kaya Grandi around 5-6pm (after that they go to Habitat-I think). Last year they had over 50 kids in costumes. The shops are familiar with this, and have treats ready on the 31st. We'll put up our Halloween decorations after Regatta. Seems it's becoming more popular every year. Maybe Sara, who used to have the best (and only) Halloween parties at Green Parrot, will start something at Divi this year...

I've since heard Halloween's being celebrated on Saturday, the 28th......I suppose that's easier all the way around for parents & kids--but I am not sure about this--someone with kids trick-or-treating in town know more? Please post, include times if possible.

Ann Louise Tuke and Gabrielle Nahr used to organize kids years ago..The kids are now adults and off to various other parts of the world and it has fallen on the new crop of ghosts, witches and goblins to take over the tradition. Perhaps, I will make a few stops on Sat evening...Trick or Treat...

There will be a gaggle of local costumed kids organized by Bonaire's favorite Halloween Witch, Corine Gerharts (she runs Bonaire Tours), trick or treating downtown starting around 4:30pm on Tuesday, Oct. 31st. As Ruth says, they will be going around to various downtown merchants to collect sweets and other goodies. This is the 10th year that Corine has organized this (and I think the 7th or 8th that my kids have participated - Bas will, anyhow - Krystyana has decided that she's too old now).

Makes for a nice photo opportunity too, BTW :-)

Jake (who will be there with camera in hand)
