If you can't get a feeder right away, you can make your own - I did it once with a girl scout troop. I'm sure if you google "homemade hummingbird feeder" you will come up with plenty of results. The key is that either the feeder is red or the liquid is red. Hummingbirds can't smell, so they locate their food by the attractive colors. You can just mix up some sugar water (about 50% water & 50% sugar by weight) with some red food dye (or just put it in a red bottle) & the bird will drink. You can even surround the dish or bottle you use with flowers so the bird associates flowers with food & is not dependent on the feeder when it is well enough to be set free. Good luck & I hope the bird is ok!

My hummingbird feeder says 1 part sugar to 4 parts water- and you can heat it up but not boil it to make sure the sugar dissolves. (Just don't put hot water out there!!) My hummingbirds are smart and not scared of me at all anymore- they hang out all over the feeder and SIT THERE when it is empty- they barely move -I have to make them leave to fill it. A few years back in Curacao I was on my way in for a dive and looked down and a hummingbird was busy trying to get nectar from the pink stripe on my wetsuit- the bend of my elbow must have looked good!! I stood stock still and he finally gave up and perched on my arm and looked up at me as if saying "hey Lady! what gives!?"
