Crackberry addicts and T-Mobile Sidekick users (like myself) - rejoice or suffer - it looks like GPRS data roaming services now work on Bonaire.

I just went to charge my GSM-based Sidekick II data phone in advance of my vacation trip up to the States and Europe (it's registered with T-Mobile in the U.S. and allows me to do e-mail while in transit in the U.S. and some foreign destinations), and lo - I started seeing new e-mails on the phone while here on Bonaire - that's not happened before.

My guess is that means that Blackberry phones and other GSM/GPRS based PDAs will now work here as well. I'm not sure what the cost is, but the T-Mobile site indicates that it may be $0.015/Kilobyte of data, meaning 100KB is about $1.50. I'll find out when I get my next T-Mobile phone bill, I guess...

If any crackberry addicts out there bring their Blackberrys (or phone PDA users as well) to Bonaire, please let us all know if you find them working here (and also indicate which carrier(s) you use in the U.S.).

Jake

PS And Cynde Lee did make it to Bonaire tonight :-)

I had it on good authority that Cynde was going to have quite a large welcoming party ...

Jake
My experience from the last few trips here has been that the Cingular Berries and and my Treo get intermittent phone and sms but true data........... not so far but I suspect it depends on your provider.

That is what I also got down in Belize recently but you just do NOT want to know what the roaming chages were!!!!

I don't do data on the phone, but for the first time I got a digital roaming signal on my US Sprint PCS phone while on Bonaire in May. Before I got no signal at all.

This year is the first time our mobiles have worked to the UK but we could only text and it was not very reliable. We did manage one call to Bobs mum but think this was just very lucky!!!
