Is there someone you know of on island who could make me curtains and pillow covers? I'd like to add a few touches to our place, like re-covering the cushions on the sofas (they are wicker sofas). So I'm not talking about re-upholstering anything, just sewing a bit. I'd like to buy the fabric here and have the work done on Bon.
Anyone know?
Thanks

There are plenty of people who sew. Stop in when you are on island and I can give you a list.

That is great news. thanks!
Anyone know how easy/hard it is to find foam to fill already made pillow covers? I really can't transport entire pillows in my suitcase but would like to bring a few covers I have.
thanks again.

I have used Marlis' Sail Shop. They did a very nice job on my living room sofa and chair cushions. She has a nice variety of fabrics to choose from. It took them about a week to finish the job and I was happy with the work.

Marji- you CAN transport foam in your suitcase- I play handbells and we transported 36 feet of 4 inch foam (cut into 3X3 foot lengths) in one pretty big suitcase to Europe last year. either find some of those 'wonderbags' that are big enough for blankets and put the foam in those (and roll it tight) OR if you are cheap (like we were)get some heavy duty garbage bags and duct tape and a vaccum cleaner and suck the air out. You will need a willing teenager to help. Just tape the heck out of the bag so the foam doesn't come flying open. It really works and it actually very light to carry- just make sure that when you first check your bags you REALLY explain what that stuff is- you don't want the inspectors trying to open anything- THEN you have a mess.(well, if you have huge blocks of foam like we did.)- when you get to your destination it springs back into shape quickly and you would never know....its actually how pillows are shipped from the factories if you think about it.

Tami,
that would work but we are already bringing so much that I'd rather not have another huge suitcase. We will have at least 4 suitcases and 2 bikes plus a double stroller and carry-ons. I'd rather buy foam there if I can. Hopefully someone knows if it's available on island. I have a feeling it is.

Yikes! I bow to you Marji for being brave enough to travel with all that stuff!! I get all whiney and teary eyed just dragging my own dive stuff through the airport without bringing a bike!! (but does it stop me from packing enough stuff to fill three suitcases? no it does not.)
