Last night I went to the opening of an art exposition of local artist Norwin (Nochi) Coffie at Artebon (located on the sea road towards town)
On display are about 15 to 20 (I didn't count) of his oil paintings.
I thought they were very beautiful and interesting paintings. Lots of color, detail.. some realistic and others a bit more on the surreal side with a lot of room for your own interpretation. Theme's and portrayal are mostly of local flora and fauna...buildings.. ocean..sky etc. All the work is for sale.
Expo runs till april 27th. and is surely worth a visit. open from 11:00 - 15:00 and 19:00 - 22:00. If you're lucky Nochi himself might be there to explain more about the meaning of the works.

Thanks, Bas. Is there any way to view his work at other times while we are on the island? Does he have a website yet? Thanks for the information. Carole

Hi Carole,

You might...I'll mail you his contact info off list. It's worth a try. If you do, ask him for a 1998 painting he made for an expo on Curacao about the cycles of life... it's awesome!! IMO one of the best that are up at the moment. It sent me off thinking.. it's got a lot in it. However also the most expensive one :-( Somehow that always happens to me LoL

I assume it is closed on Sundays. Do you know if they are open on Saturdays too?

barry and i were lucky to see some of linda's art while on bonaire. it is very good. linda, if you decide to have a show, you need to let everyone know so they can go if they are on the island.

keep on painting linda, you are very talented. barry especially loved the flamingos.

Linda, coming from Sherry, that is indeed a compliment - Sherry is extrememly talented as well. Hmm...perhaps you could do an art show together... :-)

Very much a compliment. Sherry had a home video that included views of some of her work in ink and watercolors - beautiful wildlife and of course, horses. Sherry told me she was taking fish photos to study to expand her subject matter.

Here is one of my latest - the kids brushing a horse (24x36")

Linda, the painting is great. I have to agree with Barry, that is if it's the painting next to your kitchen....

You should contact Janice http://www.janartbonaire.com . She offers art classes for adults and kids although I don't know if she will be doing them during the summer.

Dia di Art (put on by Artebon) is July 7th at Wilhelmina Plaza - lots of arts and crafts. Janice usually exhibits there.

WOW!!! That is a lovely painting! I am impressed with the detail, including the rippling of the clothing. When we finally make it back to Bonaire, perhaps you'd be willing to show us more. Super job, Linda!!

Linda's getting close (in terms of number of excellent paintings) to have an exhibition, and we are planning to offer her art (which is presently all Bonaire-themed) for sale in various forms at some point :-)

linda -well, it looks like her. makes me get more excited to draw and paint when i see good art.

this weekend i saw some beautiful scenery in a canyon where we did our trail riding. we went nearly straight down horseback 500 feet where at the bottom, it opened up and was lovely riding with a river meandering through it. inspirational.

Awesome painting, Linda! Nice pic of the kids...

I still remember a Halloween pumpkin you carved back in college. I didn't think it was possible to do anything like that with a pumpkin. Definitely the coolest pumpkin I've ever seen... I don't remember what the carving was, just remember the -intricate- details!

I'm glad you're finally getting a chance to work on your art!

Faith

Here's another sample of Linda's art (which she will be exhibiting on July 7th at Dia di Arte here on Bonaire):
