The recent elections here were parliamentary (central government in Curacao). Bonaire has three seats in the parliament, and as a result of the recent election, 2 seats went to the UPB (Green Party - somewhat like U.S. Republicans), and 1 to the PDB (Red Party - like U.S. Democrats). That's a reversal of what it had been. The UPB, combined with PABOSO (yellow party - social democrats of sorts) form the majority coalition in the Bonaire island government.

I don't know all the details on the other islands for the parliamentary elections, but understand that upsets abounded as old parties in power lost seats and new ones gained them.

Whether it will make much difference is to be seen.

In our own election, Jake and Linda were voted "King and Queen" of the cams. It was a landslide election, and no one was surprised. Thanks for all that you do!smile

Hello B-Talkers,
We had a great time attending one of the out door political rallies during the week between Christmas and New Years. It was an interesting cultural experience and I recommend it to anyone interested in a taste of the culture.

I lived in another Caribbean nation and election time was very comical. The various partys would hold picnics for voters..food and HUGE music sessions. Day and night cars would drive around the villages with huge loud speakers broadcasting politcal messages...everyone would wear the colors of the party running..and the division between the party in power and the opposition was fierce. Interesting indeed.
