Can't say for Telbo, but I did hear a rumor of affordable ($100/month?) higher speed wireless service being planned by them for sometime in the near future.

Flamingo TV has cable Internet now.

128Kbps max Internet access for consumers.

Telbo is currently testing wireless, always connected, internet service as we speak. They say that things are going very well and will allow the rest of us (we just moved here) to get it very soon. I think it may very well happen before the end of September. The monthly cost is 100 NAF and it is going to run at 128k and always be alive. They will put a transceiver on top of your house and cable down into the house to a router that you will plug your networked computer into. Some people will need to have network cards installed into their systems. They say they will provide that service for you if needed. So for those with DSL at home in the States, it will be like that.

Flamingo TV is supplying cable Internet at 128K now as Jake said. Their coverage area is still small but growing. They are not getting out to our neighborhood till the end of the year (if all goes well) so we will opt for the Telbo wireless as soon as we can get our hands on it.

I should have the cable installation next week in my office (in my house). Will report on it once it's running. Will probably also get a Telbo wireless connection if the price is actually as good as indicated (they say they will be offering higher speeds, problem is that I don't have line of sight to Telbo, so I need to wait for a relay tower at Seru Largo) as another back-up - can't have too much connectivity :-)

Hi Jake,

Wondered if your cable installation has happened yet? If so, how is the performance? Is it really only 128kbs?

Thanks,
Barton

I was told two weeks ago that it would be another month. I'm also waiting for my Telbo wireless connection which I paid for a couple of weeks ago. Both will be 256Kbps connections (business vs. residential).

Once I have them running for a bit reliably I'll post a note here.

Jake

Thanks for the update.

Just curious - what is the rate difference between business and residential? If it is less than 2x, it might be worth it :-).

Barton,

Residential is 128Kbps and approximately NAFl. 100,00. Business is twice that or more, both in price and max bandwidth.

Jake I just got back from Bonaire after yet another frustrating week of dealing w FlamingoTv... As I understand it the problem is with the "line".. I suspect the amplifiers along the road to hato and thence to Sabadeco. I had given them payment and signed up for Tv in APRIL!!
I have the hookup and the modem but no signal. It will not register on their network and as I understand it that will not happen with in the forseable future!! You might want to check with Tim and Ricardo. This is really frustrating for those that they have promised this to and I was anticipating hooking my existing security and video system into it.

It looks like the probability of getting cable internet into Hato and Sabadeco is not going to be in real time.
