We are going to Bonaire in late September and are considering renting a car, but aren't sure. Do you feel you need a car there or can you get around well without one (cabs, etc)??

From personal experience, if you want to do any shore diving then a vehicle is a must. Also it makes for a good oppurtunity to explore the island while off gassing.

You will have much more freedom and enjoy your trip more with your own vehicle. I would suggest a four wheel drive or something with high clearance so you can enjoy the park. Bonaire's major roads are well marked in comparison to other islands I have visited, so getting around is a piece of cake.

To get a full appreciation of the island, I would recommend a vehicle - jeep, truck, van - no cars.

Stacy, definitely go for a 4 wheel drive vehicle or truck of some sort. You will NOT regret it in the end. Just exploring the island and the park is well worth the rental fees and costs.

You could get along without a car....but....a car would greatly enhance your vacation on Bonaire. Personally, I could not imagine going to Bonaire and suffering without a car. There are so many great things to see and do which require a vehicle. A car would be well worth the cost even if you have to cut back on other things(like food).
