I recall reading discussions of rental car insurance issues, I believe on this newsgroup, however, I have not been able to find it again. I've looked at all the different topics too. I'll be renting a car on Bonaire on 6/15 and am unsure what insurance, if any to take out as my California car insurance does not cover me at all. Can anyone direct me to this past discussion or provide suggestions? I'll be renting from Avis. Thanks in advance.

Your liability policy will not cover you out of the US (except for Canada). Liability coverage is for a car you hit or property you damage.
The coverage you get from your credit card is on the rental car you are driving and does not cover damage you might do to another car or property.
As best as I could tell from the answers I got, the rental car companies on Bonaire do not provide separate liability and collision coverage, so if you want liablity coverage you must take the insurance from the rental company.
