Interesting thing is that at f.i. AB Carrental the double cabin pickup truck (without AC and powersteering) is cheaper than a Toyota Yaris. Can you imagine?

What you could do is visit the bunch of rental car offices just opposite the Airport-building (on the parking lot) and check out their rates. They are open from 05:00 am, so I think you can fly in and book immediately...
But, if you want to be sure you get the car you want, you can check out the rates on the websites. Via the Infobonaire website you should get a long way: http://www.infobonaire.com/transportation.html
:-)

Mary:

I always email a few car rental places and ask for quote on a certain style of auto. Like soft top jeep, truck, 2 door car, etc. I do not care about make of auto.

Purpose of quote is to get best price and to have all the taxes, fees, etc. included. You may get a better price by asking for a quote, you surely should not get surprises in the form fees, taxes, etc. which you were unaware of.

Example: "Please quote a soft top jeep type auto for these dates XXXXXX, Include all taxes, fees etc. for complete out the door price. Do not include CDW". Whether you get CDW or not is up to you.

Look in INFOBONAIRE.com for rental agencies. Budget has always treated me nice & fairly, as have others.

Good Luck
Dave

In addition to price, you may also want to consider the condition of the vehicles. Over the years we have have rented from a variety of companies and had many rusty cars with bald tires. I won't mention the companies by name because as ownership changes so does quality. However, we have rented from Everts (local company) for the last few years and have received excellent service and vehicles. Their prices are listed on their website.

Don't forget that if you rent a pickup, most, if not all, credit cards do not act as primary insurer instead of having CDW, so if you want to use the credit card insurance, you're better off without a truck. We have a Suzuki CarryVan 1.3ltr here now, and really love it. Came from Everts who have always been excellent to deal with.

just as an added tip....make sure you buy the adapter that fits on your inflator hose which will allow you to put air in the tires. If you are diving and get a flat tire (not uncommon), you will be able to re-inflate and drive it to the repair station instead of changing a tire in the brush.

My wife and I are starting to plan a three to six month stay probably with in the next year. Is there a place where we could rent or lease a vehicle for that period of time? It doesn't need to be top of the line.
When we were down there is Dec. we spoke to a couple who mentioned a car sales barn(?) who might lease but they didn't know the name. Any Ideas? They had leased there car from a local for the time they were there.
Any Ideas at all?
Thanks,
Bob

Bob,

You'd be best off buying a used vehicle and then selling it at the end of your stay. A lease, in the American sense at least, is virtually unheard of hear, and a long term rental is likely to cost you dearly...
