We will be visiting the island soon and we're curious about how the road construction is coming along. We were there in March and the road in front of the telephone company and the seaside road by Karels were both a mess..any progress?

The elections are over and most of the road construction is finished except for the work on the seaside. You can drive most of the length, albeit it is a bit bumpy. There is a promenade that is being constructed and it is to run from the cruiseship pier north. The progress is slow but steady.

Michael..you've mentioned a promenade on the seaside being constructed but I haven't seen any plans on how it will look when finished..Will it be enclosed with shops or just a walkway? Just curious if you have any more info?

The promenade, which will run the length of Playa from downtown up to the end of Kaya Playa Lechi, and is a walkway/sidewalk. One reason for its installation is to provide a pleasant and safe (from wrenching one's ankle in a pothole or on a slope) place to walk along the water's edge for people staying at the northern resorts (i.e. Harbour Village through Habitat).
