I read in the Fodors book that Avis and Budget are the existing rental car agencies. Is there a local rental car agency or others? Are most of the cars jeeps or what types of cars are typically seen? One one trip to Grand Cayman, we had a Dhiatsui mini van which was a real sardine can, just wondering what the standard type of vehicle is for the island. Thanks.

There are several car agencies, and several car types: jeeps, mini-vans (yes, they can look like sardine cans, depending on the number and size of the sardines!), pick-up trucks (favorite of shore divers), etc. We have always rented from Netty's, and in this newsgroup she has also got some favorable opinions. I see some folks advised to arrange your car rental before arriving. Is this just to be sure a vehicle is available, or is there a difference in cost? We won't need the car to get us from the airport to the Plaza

Last December we rented a mini van from Netty's Car Rental and were very pleased. They met us at the airport with our van. When I turned it in, Netty drove me back to our residence. The phone number is listed in the web site Antonio posted above.
