Hi all! Anyone have experience using the Amex Blue Card Premium insurance booking a package deal through a resort? It seems to me the car insurance may not automatically kick in if the Amex charge is made by the resort and not directly by the car rental company. It is my first time booking a package deal like this (ie: car, resort, dives)so I'm unsure what to expect. Thanks!

My experience is that as long as it was paid by the card , either direct or third party they honour their insurance , the catch is not all models ie.pickup trucks are covered , read the policy through .

We have used the Amex card several times for rentals in bonaire. We have always rented directly from the rental company and not through a resort. So, I don't know about coverage when renting third party through a resort package. However,We did talk with Amex and it definitely will cover pickups in Bonaire. They automatically invoice for insurance at $19.95 when the charge goes through. However, we found that we were double billed the charge -once when we made the car reservation($75.00 reservation fee) and then again when we made the actual payment for the full rental. Amex easily refunded the double charge when we called them.
Hope this helps answer part of your question.

We just called American Express. Asked them specifically about insurance coverage for pick ups through resort rentals. Amex will cover pick ups in Bonaire. Amex will cover a resort package rental IF 1) you call them and tell them the date and duration of the rental pickup 2)name of the rental company and the resort 3)a contact number for the resort 4)pay for the rental through the resort with the Amex card 5)primary driver and contract for rental must be the same name as the name on the Amex card.

That's what they said.

Vann, thanks thats very helpful. Do you know if you have to have to sign up for the Premium Insurance to get them to cover the pick-up? In the research I've done that seems to be my understanding...no pick-ups covered unless you get the premium coverage.

Oh, I forgot to ask, what then do you do about liability? Is that automatically included with the rental?

The Amex insurance does not cover liability. We never get liability insurance with a rental because we have a personal umbrella liability policy ourselves because of our rental properties. This covers us for personal liability in all cases/causes. I'm not sure what you mean by "Premium Insurance"-I suggest that you call American Express and get that answer directly from them. Their number is 888-258-3741
