Is the care rental area at the airport finished? If so, what agencies are located there now?

Carol, I'm not sure what "area" you are talking about. If you are talking about across the road from the airport, no, nothing there now. Budget, AB, and most others are located across the parking lot at the airport. I THINK there is one that is at Plaza, but don't know which one.

What agency are you looking for?

So the area rental car agency that used to be there (you had to walk to it) is no longer there? We were on bon last year, but rented from AB because they were at the Plaza, so I didn't notice a car rental area at all. Ok experience, but we'd rather be able to pick the vehicle up at the airport.

Poppy of Telrin Car Rental is not at the airport, but she will meet you at the airport after you get your bags, with your truck/car. No need to wait in line with her service... Ron

Ok, Tink, that's what I was wondering.....so it is where they always used to be - just renovated?

So why was it closed? Was it just not accessible when the new parking lot was being done?

Carol, not a clue. This whole thread now has me confused...lol...

They WERE going to have some car rental offices across the street from the airport (Port Bonaire area). That is now defunct. The rental agencies at the airport are where they have always been...you have to walk across the parking lot (not the road) to get to them. The only real change is the parking lot. You can no longer drive up to the airport curbside (only for taxis now)...and have to pay for parking.

I hope this makes sense! lol!

Carol: All has to do with $$ (like many things in life). Several of the companies moved out since the powers to be at the airport dramatically increased the property rental spaces available to the car rental companies. This was the reason they initially tried to move across the street to avoid paying the additional fees.

Ok, so now I get it - thanks Vince and Tink. So in the past, we would get our bags walk over, get our truck and leave - that sounds like it can still be done. When leaving, hubby would drop me and bags off, then he would go drop off the truck and walk back - sounds like there is no more "drop off" at the entrance - people have to drop off the truck and walk to the terminal just like they do on arrival, correct?

Carol, you are correct. Just get a cart at baggage claim to lug the bags back and forth.

Vince, not a clue why it's defunct, but I'd sure love to know what happened!

a lot of it had to do with safety issues of passengers crossing a main road and police permission... among other things

We usually rent from AB Car Rentals. They are located at the Plaza. When you make your truck reservation, AB gets your flight information.AB knows when you are arriving and will have someone at the airport waiting for you with a poster and your name.. I usually catch a ride to the Plaza with the AB driver, rent the truck and return to the airport. By then, MAYBE my wife will have the luggage . It works well. When we are ready to leave Bonaire, we both go to the airport and unload luggage and my wife waits there. I return the truck to AB and they bring me back to the airport. the drive from AB to the airport is 5 minutes. The system works well-just be sure to reserve the truck in advance.

Our last trip to Bonaire was 2 years ago, we rented from AB, they were at the airport. When did they move to The Plaza?
