Hi all!

I'm booked for my third Bonaire snorkel trip on the EWR-BON flight arriving on Feb 22nd.

Since the offices of BOA won't be open and I cannot check-in until 2pm, I'll be stuck with my bag until at least 9am when the Dive Shop opens.

If kind folks will be staying there and wouldn't mind babysitting my bag for a bit, I'll take you for breakfast in exchange. I trust you because I have nothing interesting to steal anyway. ;)

If not, I'll just wander about until I can find a spot for my bag and get myself into the sea. Any suggestions?

Also, I'll be available to help divers load/unload their gear at remote sites in exchange for a lift as I have no vehicle. I could pitch in for gas $ too.

Looking forward to being back in my favourite place in the world!!

Lisa from Montreal

Did you try to arrange an early check-in at BOA? We did that last trip and it worked wonderfully. There is a nominal charge and they had our apartment keys waiting at Budget for us when we picked up our truck. I imagine they can arrange to have the keys waiting other places, too, since you're not renting a vehicle.

Very convenient, as we were unpacked, the fridge was stocked, and we were in the water a.s.a.p after arrival.

Hi Liz,

Thanks, yes, I did try to arrange an early check-in but Tess says that there is someone in my unit until check-out so I'm out of luck on that point.

The flight is so cheap compared to my previous trips that I have no regrets about the weird timing. I'll just go for breakfast and ask for a three-hour egg instead of a three-minute egg.

I'm sure that other Red-Eye zombies will be in the same situation. I'll try to chat with folks in the Continental gate in Newark. Maybe one of them will be able to help.

Well welcome to BT Lisa, about time by the way, third trip? :-)

That is a tough problem. Well one semi-sleezy way would be to show up at the Divi front desk and ask them to hold your luggage. It's only semi-sleezy because you can slip them a tip for their trouble. You can make it up to the resort by buying a meal there or spend some money in the casino. That would beat staying within eyesight of the truck all day.

Oh, bummer about the lack of early check-in. City Cafe is a nice place to grab breakfast and people-watch until the dive shop opens.

Cheap airfare to Bon is very much worth any temporary inconveniences, though! Have fun!

That's actually a fantastic idea, Cecil. I might as well have breakfast there, go snorkeling for a bit and then walk into town.

It's great to be back on this website. I was actually here a lot a few years ago and I believe I've met Cecil and a bunch of other BTers at Gibi's.

People are so nice both on the boards and on the island!

Hi LL & welcome to BT.. Nina & I are on the same flight & are staying at Bellevue. I'll have a car at the airport. When we arrive we usually leave our luggage in the condo after some brief unpacking & then head over to The City for breakfast & from there to Cultimara for supplies. If you want to leave your luggage in our unit & pick up after breakfast or shopping, that's OK. Will drive you back to BOA. Just click on my name for my pic & approach me at the airport or PM me.
Hope you enjoy your trip!
PS was in Montreal last summer on a day trip. Stayed on Lake Champlain in VT. Interesting..

Thanks so much Vince!

Sounds like a plan. Breakfast is on me! :-)

I'll find you at Newark.

FYI, Sunday 2/22 is Karnaval Sunday with the big parade in town that afternoon, and 2/23 is Karnaval Monday, a legal holiday. This will affect business hours (though I'm not sure if or how it will affect any you've mentioned).

Thanks Ruth.. I knew that. I suspect The City will still be opened & am hopeful that Cultimara will also. If anyone knows differently please advise so we can be prepared.

Yeah, I hope that Cultimara will be opened so that I can practice my Dutch tinned-goods reading skills.

Honestly, I love the adventure of buying a can of something labeled "soep bollen" just to find out what the heck it is!

Lisa - too funny. I spend about half the time I'm at Cultimara wandering up and down the aisles deciding what the contents of various containers might be.

Then, we end up buying some stuff just because we are so perplexed at what the contents might actually be. Of course, that way I'm building my Dutch language skills one can at a time :-)
