I'm renting a Kia Picano from AB car rental...the insurance is expensive, but I'm nervous about not having any. Someone suggested that credit cards carry some kind of car rental insurance....is that sufficient? How do I find out, just call my credit card company?

Can you tell I don't travel much!? :-)

Donna, Amex and most platinum cards cover your rentals. Check with your specific card, as it varies a great deal.

Yes , and read the fine print on your policy , my card is fully covered for insurance , they tell you to decline the extra insurance as long as you pay with their card , at the very end of the policy it reads in very small print , vans and pickup trucks excluded . I was renting a truck so be sure you have the right coverage .

The general answer is no you are not covered. Very few credit cards will cover a rented SUV in a foreign country. Either pay the extra money for the CDW or drive very carefully and have a big limit on the card you do use.

Hi Donna, my in-laws are renting same car as you and are declining insurance as their credit card does cover them. Definitely call your CC companies and see what coverage they offer you for renting a car ON BONAIRE. Make sure you tell them where you are going make and model of car you are renting. It all depends on what coverage your CC has. Worth looking into. Your car is NOT considered an SUV, or truck.

Hi,
this is what I got from Poppy @ Telerin

Regarding the insurance, in case of an accident and it is your fault, and damage to all involved is more then $.300, = you pay only $.300, =.
(Deductible)
The rest is covered by the insurance. If damage is less you pay what the damage is, up to uS$.300, = (Example: you make a small dent that will cost only $.100, = to repair you pay that
$100, =) If you are not at fault you do not pay any thing, but this most be shown on the polis report.

Some Credit Cards Company covers the CDW. You need to check with yours.

When you decline the insurance you are responsible for all (FULL) damage done to all involved.

And then again if you are not at fault, polis report should show that.

Thanks everyone! I checked with my cc company and CDW is covered for car on Bon!! :-)

Personal liability and injury are not...hmmm...not sure what to do...but then I'm not planning on crashing into anyone...I was just worried about minor/incidental/theft/vandalism kind of stuff....

For personal liability and injury, you should invest in a personal umbrella policy. They are relatively inexpensive and coverage is world wide.

Hi there, as a platinum member of Visa, they don't ever cover truck rentals. Question, we're heading back to Bon in April. Just snorkeling the whole time. Can you take a car into Slagbaii? I never got that answered on my last trip. Visa would cover it if it's not a truck.
Feedback puh-leeze :-)

From what we were told, you cannot take a car into the park. We went through in a pickup truck, took the short route, and at times wondered if we'd make it out. It was a very long and rough ride, not at all for a car.

I second April's comments. On our first trip, we took our truck thru the park (short route) and about 1/4 of the way in, were having serious second thoughts. The roads were incredibly rough and uncomfortable. We skipped the park this year. I could not imagine doing that in a car. Ugh.

I think that is inaccurate. Have seen cars in the park and drove a mini van in it

Think what you want, and a van is not a car. If you get stuck in the park give your sole to god!

Ron, why would you suggest that someone give the bottom of his foot or shoe (or, perhaps even, his fish) to God?
