Hi all, this is my first post on here :-)
We're a couple arriving in Bonaire on Thu to get a couple of weeks of diving done.

I can't drive (lost driving license and can't get a replacement while away), and with the rates I've seen advertised Vs. tight budget, prob wouldn't have been able to afford to rent one anyway...

Since we'll eventually get tired of the "house sites", how viable is it to hitch a ride to a dive site with someone who's already driving there (maybe at the exit of the tank-filling station)?
We could chip in a couple of bucks for fuel costs and stuff...

Cheers! :-)

Iena - where are you staying? Likely not a problem to buddy up with someone to drive to a shore site. I have never had people ask other than the ones I pick up at the places I stay (usually Buddy's). I see no reason that approach would not be successful. Boat dives are not a problem but if on Bonaire one MUST get to as many shore sites as possible !!! Good luck.

Thanks for the heads-up Dan! :-)
We're still looking into the location.

In fact, the original reply I was gonna write grew so long and made me think, that I've started a separate thread: http://www.oldbonairetalk.com/newsgroup/messages/24/385506.html?1230691148
What do you think?

Love

Personally, I don't think hitchhiking is a safe way to travel. Maybe years ago, but no more. You just never know.
I agree with Dan. I'm sure you can find a ride at your resort by buddying up with another couple.

while hitchhiking on bonaire is much safer than in the states and other parts of the world, i think the bigger problem would be standing next to the road with your tanks, weights, and other gear hoping to get a ride back to your residence. we pick up people pretty often on bonaire...many times at southern sites where they've ended up doing drift dives and needed a ride back to their truck.

i agree with dan, it shouldn't be hard to post a note somewhere saying that you'd like a ride to a shore dive site at someone else's convenience.

welcome to BT
