As part of our trip, we would like to go over to Klein Bonaire and snorkle, picnic, and just look around. I've found places that do guided tours, but we're much happier getting around ourselves. Can anybody recommend a place to rent either kayaks or a small boat to get a group of 4 over to Klein? I saw on Infobonaire that you can get a ride over on a water taxi of some kind, but we would prefer to have our own transport.

Thanks!

Have you thought about Renee's catermerand "The Woodwind" over to Klien. She has a bar-b-que trip over to klien and serves a nice bar-b-que lunch on No Name Beach plus she "knows" all the fish there!.She runs out of the Divi Hotel but , I believe she will pick you up at the Plaza resort too. She also has a half day sail and snorkel over to klien with snacks and drinks and a sunset cruise. I believe the current out by klien makes it a challange to get to and from by yourself. There is also the "sea cow" taxie over to the island , that will pick you up at your hotel and take you there and pick you up at a pre-arranged time. I do think it is a better idea then trying to navigate the water and wind by yourself, unless your familiar with the currents and winds.

You can rent a small boat at the Nautico marina (just a couple of blocks north of town). Expect to pay around 100.00 us plus gas for the day.If all you want to do is go to the beach and relax,
would be a lot cheaper to take one of the water taxi which drop you at the beach and picks up on a regular basis.

Has anyone ever rented a boat on Bonaire who would care to share their experiences? Is it foolhardy to rent a boat and tie it to a mooring and dive, leaving it untended? Someone on the boards said anyone could use the marine park moorings, I don't know if this is true. Or if this is too muich " off subject"

I own a boat here and dive from it on occasion - never had a problem or concern about leaving it on a mooring while in the water.

The yellow stick buoys used to mark dive sites are open to anyone who wants to use them, for up to 2 hours at a time. However, I have been yelled at by dive boat operators when I've been tied to a mooring to fish (and when they have wanted to dive that site), so I time my reef fishing expeditions (which happen about twice a year) to times when dive boats won't be wanting the moorings.

I have rented a boat last oct. 2001. A great boat, we went to "klein Bonaire" for a BBC. We rented the boat from "Jan". It was a kind off "sloep" we call in Dutch. We went on the boat with 7 people. I've you want some information, ask Liesbeth at City Cafe. or mail info@mainstreetbonaire.com
