I see that you have posted your question in various places, but if you do a search for "Gibis" you might get some more answers.

Try this. http://www.oldbonairetalk.com/newsgroup/messages/27/252012.html?1136064720

Great link!
I had tried just Gibi's and didn't get anything that precise, just some posts showing some meeting dates and peoples names. Thanks!

Mike, you're welcome and welcome to Bonaire Talk!

Please do make Gibi's part of your visit. You won't be disappointed. It is always a highlight of my trip. He is a charming man with a charming family and will make you feel right at home on his patio. :-)

Oh! And you're from Ohio! I knew I liked you... where are you geographically? I'm not sure where Conneaut it located. I am about 30 miles east of Columbus.

Hi Kelly,
I am from about as far Northeast in OH as you can get! I live 2 miles from PA and about 10 miles South of the lake! This is my first trip to Bonaire and BT has been an immense source of info! I've lurking for months and just started posting as questions became more concrete. I will be down there NEXT WEEK! oooohhhh that sounds so cool ;-}
Take Care and thanks!

Hi Kelly, I see by the map that there is an 'old' Gibi's - when was the 'new one' established? We were there in 2003. Should we take a cab to get there if staying at the Divi? I can't remember what we did last time. Thanks! Cheryl
BTW, we're booked for Jan 25 - Feb 8TH!!!

Cheryl, you were almost certainly at the old Gibi's, across from China Nobo.
The new one is at his house, which is a bit longer walk from Divi. Would take you about 30 minutes to walk there. I'm sure somebody will offer you a ride home.
I saw Gibi at the BT party at Jake's last night. He still is a bit hoarse, but he's feeling better.
See you soon, Cheryl.

mike, don't worry about kelly not knowing where conneaut is....she's from nerk and gets a little confused when she starts travelling north. still, she's fun so we keep her around (even tho she never explained to me about her birthday t-shirts)

OK Pat, I take it that you do know where our little burg is? Normally not even "Clevelanders" do ;-} 4 days and counting!!!! Looking at the local weather, looks like we are leaving at right time, sounds like it is supposed to get back to "normal". The things is, at least you have some idea of where I am and what we experience here; (weather wise) Kelly probably doesn't even know what snow is ;-} I imagine you are in the snowbelt too right? I hope it doesn't interfere with our departure!

mike, my wife has some cousins in conneaut. we are kind of in the snow belt but not to the extent that chardon and the rest of geauga county is...those places dont' even think of closing the schools till they get about 6' of snow on the ground...to them, anything less than 6 feet is just a dusting.
we've never been held up on our departure from here due to weather. matter of fact, last year when we left in early february the temp at 530AM when we got to the airport was almost 50. and when we got home ten weeks later it was 45...then we got 14" of snow the last weekend of april.

Pat, we are completely out of the snow belt here in Central Ohio. I even have a southern accent. lol. Lots of rain yesterday/last night. You?

kelly, i drove to columbus a few times over the past week...hardly any snow south of mansfield. i still think it should be warmer there tho...you are that much closer to the equator.

we had some rain here last night and a rain/snow mix over the last few days...nothing on the ground though. it's supposed to snow this weekend.

Tish, I just noticed your post to me, I'm sorry that I missed it. Thank you very much for the info regarding Gibi's. I remember meeting him in 2003 and was so amazed at how he handled such a large group (we met Superturtle and his group for the first time as well!).. It certainly was an incredible evening!! Gibi was such a gentle soul.
I imagine it will be dark when we walk over, should we worry about personal safety at that time of the evening? The reason why I'm asking is that we have also been to Curacao and were warned not to be out on the streets after dark.
The walks from downtown to Divi at night never bothered us, I just don't know about the other areas. Thanks Cheryl

cheryl, you don't have to worry about walking around bonaire at night...and while you may walk to gibi's i'd almost guarantee that someone there will give you a ride back (your last day on bonaire is the day we arrive or i'd say that we'd give you a ride). it should be about a 15-20 minute walk to gibi's from the divi.

Curacao is indeed dangerous. Bonaire, however, is nothing like Curacao! I have never heard of a mugging on Bonaire, but I suppose freakish incidents could happen anywhere.
You say "we," so if there are two of you I think you should be fine. And I walk alone on Bonaire without fear.
How long it takes to walk somewhere is a very individual matter. I have short legs, and it would take me more like 30 minutes to walk from the Casino parking lot at Divi to Gibi's.
Enjoy!

Pat, Thanks for your offer to give me a lift if you would have been there (People on the forum are so friendly and welcoming .. it boggles my mind :-). I'm really happy that you'll just be arriving ..I'm sure you can hardly stand the wait at this point in time. On the other hand, I know that I'll be so sad :-( because I'll have to leave the next morning......I dread that feeling!

Tish,
I'll look forward to meeting you at Gibi's if you're there. I'm the one with the 'short legs" *VBG*, so I'll get there in half an hour .... did I say "I can hardly wait?"

Cheryl, I've just put your first Tuesday night on my calendar for Gibi's, and I would be happy to give you a ride home if you're willing to leave after dinner instead of hanging out. Your second Tuesday night I'm nearly certain I will not be able to make it since a house guest will just have arrived who is sure to insist on another schedule.
See you soon!

Thank you very much Tish, that is awfully kind of you. We may take you up on your offer if we have not rented a car by then. Still exploring options and availability. See you soon!! Cheryl

tish, i've never heard of a mugging either. i guess fights might occur (somebody once said that if there is a fight at pashi's place the entire police department shows up...LOL) but i imagine that the people would know each other. i've never heard of a visitor having a problem. remember last year when there was a shooting in hato? the two people knew each other and the shooting was the result of an argument. as far as i know, nobody died but that was discussed on bonaire for weeks afterwards...here in the states it wouldn't have even made the newspaper. on bonaire it was really big news because there is so little violent crime and i don't know of anyone who owns a gun there. (now i hope i don't start a thread on violent crime on bonaire)
