This is just too cool. I am the first at the Habitat but I understand that there are more access points coming (including chat and browse) ... details at bonairelive.com.

Anyway ... I am sitting at the habitat with a 256kb internet access. I've already used it to line up work for my return, download a ROM update for some of my equipment etc.

For the habitat, the eventual plan (I am told) is wireless coverage for the entire property, so then you will be able to use it in your room. Right now its the office, the bar and the dive shop.

So bring a laptop and an 802.11b wireless card and check it out.

Hey Yana girl!
We were at the webcams yesterday and Tuesday with Darlene and Denise. Also, with Tom and Smack yesterday. We were wearing the purple hats!

Further news...
I am told the Habitat hopes to eventually have wireless access in all or most of the rooms. It will be first in those rooms that face the pool. I suspect that one or two of the cottages may already be in range. By the way ... I think they also will rent you a WiFi card if you don't have one. The system uses 802.11b or 802.11g ... which most new laptops have.

Chat and Browse is nice but its not as convenient for me when I stay at the Habitat. Also ... ice cream makes the little IBM/Toshiba eraser head mouse thingy get gummed up.

Yeah, I agree with the ice cream observation. It is still a nice walk from Habitat for those who did not bring their laptops.

Anyone have an idea what protocol is supported at Eden Beach and Bongo's? A, B, G, all of the above? Boingo doesn't show any info for Bonaire at all. Grumble.

The Access Point at Boingo's does 802.11b & g, I think.

Can't seem to find a listing for it either at www.boingo.com, though. Boingo doesn't even list Netherlands Antilles as a country. Go figure.

I'll mention that to Dan, since that's his thing.

Boingo's "network status" page lists Eden Beach as being down, with no ETR. They don't mention Bongo's yet (as of their 23 Oct 2004 update). I've just installed the software on my laptop, and it's showing Eden Beach as well, and they finally recognize N.A. as a country.

I'll find out one way or another in 10 days

Eden Beach is the AP I was referring to (it's just that at Bongos, you get the best signal :-) ) You won't find both listed.

For network status - not sure if that's live status or still old info from weeks ago. It was active yesterday when I checked in on it.

I've asked them to fix the listing, since the AP is showing healthy indications on the administrative page at Boingo.
