Hey guys, check out these environmentally friendly "cars" (glorified golf carts?) at www.gemcar.com and www.zeropollution.com. The former runs on a rechargeable electric battery, and the latter on compressed air. Seems like something like this would be perfect for Bonaire. I know, solar power would be best. They're trying to push the Gemcar here where I live (Nantucket Island, MA), but it would only work as a summer car here..brrrrrr. Anyone on Bonaire seen any of the dealerships offering something like this to buy OR rent?

Not much room for dive equipment.

Actually there's plenty of room with either the short box utility bed and/or the long box utility bed made of that diamond-pattern steel (not those dinky Playmate cooler size "trunks" you are probably referring to).

How the heck would you fit 4-6 divers (8 - 18 tanks), coolers and ALL their gear into one of those things? Good Lord there would be a major traffic jam everywhere, especially at the fill stations.

Sorry, thought it was a good idea. The gemcars can seat up to 4, and I always dive with 2 other people. Didn't realize you guys travel in large packs. 18 tanks?? And coolers? I thought you weren't supposed to take all that extraneous stuff due to "petty theft". Forget I mentioned it!

Hmmmm...add a trailer hitch and a rack to it for tanks and equipment and I think we're good to go!!

Good idea, but would be a hard sell to the government to get a permit to import and rent for tourist usage. I would love one however. Ambergris in Belieze would be an ideal place for these.

Kate like Michael said, on a different island where beach diving is not the "norm" your eco-friendly truck would be ideal. On Bonanire, four people beach diving carry a heckuva lot of gear, 2-3 dives equal 12 tanks and coolers are a must for re-hydration. Nobody steals tanks and if you need something out of my cooler, help yourself, it is in the bed of the truck. :-)

Simple solution to that....rent 2 instead of 1. I'll go this way and you go that way...see who gets there first!! :-)
