Has anyone had the experience on Bonaire where a rental car/mini-van/pick-up was actually "stolen"?

Has anyone had the experience on Bonaire renting a vehicle from Highway Corp.?

If yes to either of these, I'd be very appreciative to hear about your experiences.

Thanks,

We rented from Highway Rentals last May. We were very please with their service and rates.

Bonaire is a small island with a fairly
close-knit population and there really isn't
anything to do with a stolen vrhicle. Driving
one around isn't smart there, and there aren't
any 'chop shops' (are there???). Taking one
off the island requires going through customs,
etc. I suspect not many newer cars (like
rentals) are stolen. Maybe one of the 'locals'
will comment.

The problem is with the word "stolen" and "joy riden". For me they are one in the same but apparently the law is written differently. If my car is missing than in my mind it has been stolen.

Regardless cars are rarely removed from the island but some have been found stripped for parts.

The main problem is cars being taken for "joy riding".

Thanks for your response Bruce, but could you elaborate on whether this "joy-riding" is a big problem or just something that is bound to happen anywhere from time to time?
