My wife and I and two sons planned a trip to Bonaire awhile ago to be there the last week in June through the first full week of July. On memorial day May 31st I ruptured my achilles tendon and had surgery 3 days later. I am now in a cast from below my knee to my toes and cannot walk on it or put any weight on it for 5 more weeks. I am using crutches and am starting to get around alittle better than at first. I thought about cancelling our trip but decided not to. The thought of not being able to do most of the things that I love doing on Bonaire is just making me depressed. I've decided just sitting around taking in the sights is ok with me. Now all that's bothering me is how tedious the traveling will be. I'm just curious to hear from any of you what you think you would do if you found yourself in this situation.

Sorry to hear about your accident. I feel the same way as you, I'd rather be on vacation in a nice place than sitting at home staring at the lawn that needs mowing.

You might want to look into assistance at the airport between gates. I'm not suggesting a wheel chair but getting a ride on the airport carts. When I was pregnant traveling between the gates was just too much walking and dodging other travellers. You might also be able to snag the bulkhead row for the extra legroom. They are suppose to keep it reserved for such situations but you would have to check in early.

If you can drive with the other leg, you might also want to rent an automatic car. We do have them down here, but they are not the usual rental.

Have you asked your doctor about a waterproof cast? You might be able to cool off in a pool or laze about on a float with a big frosty ice tea that way.

Thanks Linda...I have thought about a waterproof cast and that's a possibility..I can't get the cast wet now because of the surgery but by the time I leave for Bonaire that should change..I can't drive but I'll have help with that..I'm going to try to get the first row of seats on the plane if I can and hopefully some motorized transportation through the airport during layovers. I'm already getting excited about our trip. I may even have an amstel!!
