Hi everyone,

Is the menu written in spanish, dutch or ??? Generally when I travel, I always try the local food of the region. I like to be able to know the basic word/character for beef, chicken, goat, etc..

Annie,

Local menus are in Dutch/Papiemento and English. You will have NO problems determining what to order, there is a local bar-b-que that opens only on Fri-Sat (Take Away) that has the BEST goat I have tasted.

Annie,

It is hard to beat Giby's (site of the BT gatherings on Tues nites) and Rose Inn in Rincon for local food. BobbyJans has great barbecue but only serves on the weekends...also, try the China Nobo across the street from Giby's..ask for the conche lunch

Annie-
Actually, alot of menus are in English. At the more local spots, they'll be in Papiamentu. Off the top of my head, here is some useful menu vocab:
cabrito- goat
pisca- fish
lomito- tenderloin
keshi yena- Antillean dish of shredded, seasoned beef and raisins, covered in gouda
stoba- stew
funchi- cornmeal (aka- Antillean polenta)
pastechi, loempia- meat filled turnovers

I'm sure I've left out many! But at least it's a start. Have fun. I'm green with envy!
