First meal on island we headed to Gibbys and had fresh Wahoo ,pesca hasa is pan fried fish usually served with creole sauce...and Amstel. We finally found Maikey Snack this year, open 11-4 everyday except Thursday, had galina stoba or chicken stew and Kabrita stoba, goat stew here in the most authentic surroundings you are ever gonna get...this is the real thing ladies and gentlemen..the goats and the chickens are walking around your table and the food and service could'nt be more genuine...great prices too.Went to Rincon Market Days and had lots of taste treats, except for the sopa mondongo..tripe soup..ugh! Bas' fish soup at BT party the best !
Tried the Ribs Factory..nice view upstairs, and our fav is ZeeZicht Burger on their porch...sometimes you just have to have a hamburger after all that goat stew and fish ! Wonderful evening at Chibi Chibi and also Rains Fishes, and multiple visits to Lovers Ice Cream in the mall and a stroll down the waterfront...best meal of all was goat stew made by friend Charlotte in our own kitchen..and fresh watermelon from the fruit boat

So where was Maikey Snack. We tried to find it last time and couldn't. I just read this to my husband & he laughed at the "ingredients of the stew walking around"

Debbie , we agree....Maikey Snack is worth the time it takes to locate it. A little tricky to find and don't take your white gloves to inspect the kitchen. Simply the best Stoba and Funchi....but is kinda weird with the little goats walking around. Another of my faves is the Creole Barracuda. YUMMY!!

Gail the only way I can explain how to get there is to go to the stadium/ballfield area ,keep going beyond that and watch very closely for the little yellow signs on poles...follow these into the countryside til you see a small building (green I think) with a lovely outdoor patio built over a gnarly tree. Surrounded by goats and chickens. (At least you can be certain the ingredients are fresh!!)margarite

Thanks for the directions - we'll do our best to find it. We have a history with goat stew that started in St. Maarten at our godson's christening - we made friends with some islanders there and they very kindly asked us to be godparents. At the party after the christening the mother (Jackie) had made goat stew and Bob really enjoyed it. (after he got over the ingredients and a few Heinikens into him :-))

"but is kinda weird with the little goats walking around "

If you look closely each goat and chicken will have a small sign around their neck with a day-of-the-week identified .... think of it as a "use-by-date"! <vbg>

It's FRESH! And not really difficult to find.

Bob
