As far as I know, there is no "pure" Thai restaurant on the island. However, Chez Lucille, located on Kaya Hellmund, in the southern part of the port, serves what they call a "blend of French and Thai cuisine". However, this is not a joint, but an upscale restaurant, where I had a remarquable dish of duck. In my opinion, one of the best restaurants of the island.

The island could definitely use a restaurant serving good, 'authentic' southeast Asian food. And Chinese and Japanese and Indian.

I agree with Michel, the food at Chez is great but my second time the service was the worst I have ever had in my life (aside from one nightmare in Antigua). The older man knew I was upset. For some reason the young waiter gave us our food and never came back. I had to beg for our check 4 times. We had no water refill, no wine and soda re fill and they made an error with our meal that we could not rectify.

I am sorry, but I cannot go back. There was not even an apology and no one said anything as I departed so apparently my business is not needed. Too bad as I like the food. We had been there two weeks before with 2 tables and had a super meal and the older man was a super waiter.

I would LOVE Indian too Glenn but feel so fat after eating it.

HAA

We do "Japanese" on demand (24 hr notice required)-a sushi/sashimi/seared tuna dinner. (see pix on our website: www.mangosbonaire.com). But there just doesn't seem to be enough demand to warrant full-time Asian-only type cuisine. Yet. I think Kirk (Lion's Den) has/had a tandoori dish, Lucille for some Thai, Mango's for some Japanese--that's Bonaire!

Ann,

You must not have eaten much Indian recently when I saw you in July!!! Or it is just a feeling.

Ruth,

I just looked at your web site. The Japanese meal looks very yummy. Throw in some more sashimi and we will certainly stop by.

Peter,

Based on the Sushi Dinner Linda, I, Scott, and Sharon had at Mangos, you'll not be able to eat more sashimi than Ruth serves. We waddled away from the table after all the sushi, sashimi, and seared tuna. Yum!

Jake, you've convinced me. That was difficult ... not!

Ruth, see you in March.

For the sushi lovers, Buddy's holds a Japanese night at their restaurant once a month (I think on the third monday of the month). I tried it and the sushi is as good as anything I had elsewere. The only problem is the servings are a little on the small size.

Concerning Chez Lucille, if Ann had unfortunately a bad experience, I had dinner there twice recently, and I can qualify the service I had as excellent. I suppose this can be variable from one visit to another...

The third Monday of the month this March is St. Paddy's day! Do you think they'll server the meal with green beer too? :-)
