Rendezvous --- My Favorite Restaurant

First I must apologize for such a late write-up of my favorite meal ever. Yes. Rendezvous provided me with not only my favorite meal ever, but my second, third, and fourth most favorite meals ever… which all happened to be eerily similar. :)

The establishment is an absolutely wonderful color, hues of orange, which just happens to be my favorite color. The husband and wife who run the place are VERY nice folks and I sure hope I can return to their place in the future.

My favorite meal starts out with Conch Chowder as an appetizer. I love chowders in general, New England clam chowder is another one of my favorites, simply heaven. I am sure it wasn’t the healthiest soup in the world, but it was incredibly scrumptious! For the main course I had the fish of the day cooked in a LIGHT pastry. Do not ask me how it is done, I am still wondering that myself. I am not even sure how to describe it really, except a puff pastry surrounding a fish filet… oh, and it had this incredible sauce on top. It is a white sauce, what I do not know, but it was very good. For dessert I finished it off with Chocolate Mousse! Mmmm I sure wish I could go there tonight. I had the same thing each of the four times we went there, with only the fish inside the pastry changing… between two types I can’t remember at the moment. Something I had never had before, and I presume is local to the ABC islands, and perhaps wahoo was the other…? I will have to dig up my journal and check. I really should have my journal with me now, but you know what, I had to do something about my post Bonaire depression, and so here I am writing this…

My wife and I went on our honeymoon in June of 2002. She is busily scrap booking our pictures (after I scan them), so hopefully I will be able to put up a site for all those thinking about Bonaire to look at… for now, it is back to reality.

Going to Bonaire in April and staying at the Plaza Resort. Have been there twice before. I obviously love it. Have never eaten outside the resort area. Where is the Rendevous Restaurant located? Does anyone know? Sounds interesting.

Thanks.

Rendezvous is located next to Maduro Bank on Kaya Gerharts. It is an orange/pinkish place.

I have eaten there once and have been there other times for an art opening as well as Marcel hosting the place for our press conferences for KOTCaribbean.

He is a SUPER host and has a great waitress (who happens to be an unreal artist too) Ilead. Try the Kesha Yena!

The only negative is it is indoors and not smokefree. This was not a problem when we dined the the art opening was smoke central.

If you head up toward town from the Plaza Resort, you pass by Richards on your left. If you continue on that street it curves to the right and you want to take the left just after it curves. You will see a parking lot on your left and there is a little round building, sort of like a place you might buy tickets, on your right (it is acutally some art store that was never open when we went by). Park in the parking lot there, and then keep going as if you had not parked and gotten out of the car... you will see the food market up ahead on the corner, and you want to make a left. You will see Rendevous on the right, it is next to the Maduro Bank as Annie stated.

BTW, when we went for dinner we never ran into any smoking concerns as Annie mentioned. That would have taken away from the experience I am sure, as I hate smoke and am allergic to it. :)

Don't forget to pick up a copy of Info Bonaire from the airport rack or from the lobby of the Plaza. It has the names and directions to most of the restraurant on Boanire. Also check out the other dining threads to get an idea of places you might want to try.

Bon appetite'

Marcel,

Of course, you know we LOVE your food...but wonder if you've made any changes to Rendezvous lately? All geared up for showing the Super Bowl?

Rendezvous --- Our Favorite Restaurant Too!!!
We always make it a point to dine at Rendezvous on our 1st and last night while on the island (and in between). We also love the fish in puff pastry but have you eaten the house salad with smoked marlin and horseradish? Wonderful flavor! How about the Ceviche? mmmmmmm. Cheese cake to die for!!! The next to the last day we were in Bonaire we asked Marcel about the ceviche (no longer on the menu) Marcel told us he would prepare some for us the next night. Marcel also asked us what was our favorite fish and we said mahi mahi. We made reservations for 6 people at 8:30. Well, to make a long story longer.... We could not hold out till 8:30pm. We were an hour early!!! Marcel came to our table and said He was on his way to pick up our fish...He was back in 10 minutes with a big "bull" mahi mahi. Well, of course we had to take our picture with our dinner!

Scott,
Marcel is adding an outside area for eating.

Other BTer's and lurkers,
TRY RENDEZVOUS! You will LOVE IT.

Hopefully I will get done scanning in all the pics we took during our honeymoon, and I post pics I took of the place... of course my wife took about 20 rolls of film, so it is slow going... maybe I will finally finish up this weekend.

Mahi mahi is one of my favorites too, my wife LOVES cheesecake, but I am pretty picky about dessert... although chocolate mousse is awesome.

I did not try their salad, or anything else for that matter, I absolutely loved the fish in a pastry with the sauce, and kept ordering it!

I am so missing Bonaire and Rendevous... now I just have to convince my company to let me telecommute... from BONAIRE! Project meetings sure would be a pain to make HA!
