... I also heard different opinions about El Mundo. Also that the food was horrible and the service took so long, that people were just leaving... waiting for a coffee for more then 30 minutes...

Service was prompt despite a full house on 1/1. Three courses each for 6 people took about 90 minutes....Richards on 12/30 took 2 hours 45 minutes (severe staff shortage).

Had some lunch @ El Mundo yesterday and the food was good, but I agree that the service was painfully slow. Food was not good enough for me to go back and endure the wait. Three tables and one couple waited 10 minutes for a beer and soft drink, after placing the order. I would have left as there was only three tables being served, and the other two had already placed our orders, or were served.

I ate there on the evening of 1/1 as well. The place was pretty full, and our table had 7 of us. Only one waiter was working, so the owner/manager (not sure which he was) came out to help. They did pretty well despite the short staff. Although what I ordered for dinner was just terrible (the Schnitzel -- dry, overcooked, and pretty tasteless), others in our party seemed to be quite pleased with the Rijsttafel plate (if that's the one that is sort of a sampler plate with 7 items on it). They do not have a wine list -- so I ordered a glass of Cabernet, which was oxidized to the point that I could not drink it. Ordered the Sauvignon Blanc next, which was fine. All in all, I would probably not return and just stick with my favorites.

I was with Steve in that group...there was two waiters actually and I feel the Dutch woman was very attentive..our young male waiter was overwhelmed...My roti was ok...it is always very crowded so happy they are doing well...

I'd like to give it a try. Actually, The Old Inn had the best Rijstaffel I've ever had anywhere, but Warung was great. I sent away to a Rijstaffel Company in Seattle two years ago. Got all the spices and recipes online. We hosted a Rijstaffel, with another couple. It was tremendous.

I also ate at El Mundo on the night of 1/1 and we really liked it! Service was fine. Yes, they seemed a little harried and understaffed, but it didn't really affect our service. We weren't in a rush anyway. Prices were very reasonable. Yes Jim, The Old Inn had the best rijstaffel!!
