Just back from two weeks in Bonaire. Food is excellent. We really enjoyed:

Den Laman for seafood and fabulous atmosphere. All the staff from Green Parrot have moved here and Kirk (the head guy) is a part owner. Excellent.

Blue Moon is as good as any restaurant in a big city. Excellent preparation and creative menu. A must.

Capriccio's is a first rate Italian restaurant, again with creative cooking and first rate service. This is not your heavy red sauce kind of place; the sauces are perfectly done. A must.

Le Wok is new and the food is good but the service is terrible. It is a cute little house which has been beautifully done up. I just couldnt stand the service.

Believe it or not: The Plaza Resort lunch spot (not the one on the beach but near the pool) has a terrific lunch at no higher prices than the restaurants in town. I was amazed but we went there three times!!

Rum Runner's at Captain Don's is still good and gives good value with a beautiful sunset.

Kon Tiki was closed but I think it reopened by now. Bali was also closed.

Zee Zicht: I hated it, but others like it. Terrible service and not good food.

Old Inn: This is a sleeper. Terrific and creative food. Get the smaller of the indonesian meal assortments. The big one is too big and the small one is also too big, but you can share. The place has nice atmosphere and the food was very different but very good.

How are the restaurants at the Plaza? Are they pricey, is the food good, service good?

I had diner at the Plaza on 20th january. The starter and main course was fine, the chocolate mousse was like ice, probably too long in the refridgerator. Service was not to good. Best restaurants I have been: Amadeus at the sea front. Good food and excellent service. Rendez-vous was also fine, good food and a little chaotic but very friendly service.

My husband nd I are planning on coming in Aug for two weeks- hopefully we'll get a place with a kitchen- how much would you experienced Bonaire travellers suggest to spend for meals? We love seafood, and a variety of cuisine, but don't eat too heavily (don't like to dive on a full stomach)

Just returned from a week at Capt Don's. Here's our observations of resturants. There were 7 of us for dinner every nite...

Best on the island....Kon Tiki. Shrimp wigwam is wonderful. Spinich crepe is fabulous. Everybody loved what they ordered. Worth the trip out there.

Second favorite was Richards. Wonderful seafood....Excellent service, atmosphere was great.

Den Laman was good too. Great seafood, good service.

Capt Don's was good for dinner....service very slow.

Drive to Rincon for Preca's ice cream. WOW Also, Lover's ice cream was good. Didn't give US change so take some small bills.

Zee Zicht was good for lunch. Good location and try the conch chowder.

Have fun!

Hi Silvia,

Cost for dinner is about $25 per person, +/- $20, depending on alcohol and complexity of meal. We found portions big enough to split between two people.

My husband, daughter and I were in Bonaire for two weeks in August. We spent about $50/day on food and shopping (didn't do much of that). We cooked some and ate at some really inexpensive snackbars/restaurants. The best snackbar food when we were there in January was in Wilhelmina Park. Great cole slaw.

WE JUST GOT BACK FROM BONAIRE AND OUR DINING EXPERIENCE WAS PLEASURABLE. WE ATE AT THE ANKERTJE, CAPRICCIO'S AND RICHARD'S. THEY WERE ALL FANTASTIC! OUR FAVORITE WAS RICHARD'S. IT WAS A LITTLE MORE EXPENSIVE BUT THE FILET MIGNON AND ESCARGOT WERE THE BEST I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY WHOLE LIFE!!! YOU CAN'T BEAT THE VIEW OF THE SUNSET FROM THEIR OPEN AIR DINING EITHER. JUST BE SURE TO WEAR BUG SPRAY AT DUSK.

Just returned on March 12th after spending 3 weeks in Bonaire (our 8th visit). Capriccio's was fantastic. The food was perfect (especially their hot shrimp appetizer). Mona Lisa was also five-star. Try their broiled shrimp or their rack of lamb - both are hard to beat. The new restaurant, It's Raining Fishes, was great. Hat's off to all three!! The dining seems better each year.
