We will be celebrating my partner's birthday while on Bonaire. Her request for a birthday dinner is someplace that services local cuisine, isn't too fancy, and has an ocean view, if possible. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

TreknRobin - Welcome to Bonaire Talk.

Many suggestions will be coming your way. Here are some ideas of varying prices from south to north (more or less):

Richards new Plaza Resort
City Cafe downtown
It Rains Fishes downtown
Sunset at Den Laman resort north of town
Lions Den at Buddy's north
Capt Don's Habitat restaurant north

Many others .......

Has Richard opened a new restaurant at the Plaza Resort? If so, what is going on with his old one?

.....and where is it located? Did it take over the Tipsy Seagull location?

I sure hope Rich hasn't moved-we loved the location of his old restaurant. We had heard he was going to rebuild the dock and the"Special Table"

Robin: Not certain what you qualify as "local cuisine" - MOST of the food in decent restaurants on Bonaire (mentioned by other people above) would not be out of place in any town.

But if by "local" you mean real Caribbean specialties - such as goat stew, etc. then the place you want is the Rose Inn in Rincon. It serves local food and is not too fancy but it is inland, so not an ocean view.

I also like Plazita Limena on the "main street" of Kralendyjk.

Hi Patricia - Yes, by "local cuisine" I mean real Caribbean specialties (she'll have the goat stew, I'll take the chicken or fish, thank you...) The cuisine is more important than the view, so we will find our way to Rose Inn in Rincon. Thanks for the suggestion!

Please...Kaminda Kioyo is only available at local shacks and restaurants like Maikeys, Divi Divi Bar Rest, Antriole Catereing, etc. Lots of upscale place make Goat stew but it is far from authentic and the charge a bloody fortune for it. You may want to see if Giby will cater a diner for you and you can find a romantic spot to celebrate. His food is genuine and prices reasonable.

right on Michael.....the only problem with the rose Inn is that Melfina is not open for dinner nor is Maikey. I recommend you contact Gibi .. he is the BEST and will cater a special menu. gibi will no doubt have some super great ideas for the special dinner.

Hello All-
Did Richards move from his old location to the Plaza? Unable to tell from Dan's post. Just curious.

Thanks!
