Here's our report on the new restaurant/sports bar by the pool at Sand Dollar Condo Resort: Since it opened about 3 days before we left Bonaire (3/27), it was wonderfully peaceful and service was very focused on the few of us who were there. It is all open air. The bar is large and handsome, and their margaritas are pretty good, but bloody mary's nothing to write home about. tasty daiquiris! Three game tables (but no pieces yet) - chess, checkers, backgammon - by the bar, and 2 gaping frames above bar just waiting for those TVs to arrive(not often my cuppa tea, but could be fun). Food was good -very good, and reasonably priced. We tried the special fish dishes 2 nights, a sauteed shrimp appetizer, spaghetti w/ meat balls, a hamburger, and house salad (over the 2 nights we ate there). Chef Luigi puts a Northern Italian sensibility into many of the dishes, but also creole sauce for one fish special. (I must be reading too many restaurant reviews...;-} ). The slender greenbeans flavored with butter (or olive oil) and garlic were a welcome change from many of the vegetable sides accompanying dishes at other establishments we'd tried, and came with the fish both nights. All portions were generous. the flan was good, but not best I've had, and the menu promises homemade tira misu, but it had not yet materialized. The penne pasta dish was awaiting a penne find in Curacao, as was the fettucine for the alfredo. So, there you have an idea of what's on the menu. Since we didn't try any of the other island's recommended italian places, I can't compare Luigi's cooking to them. For families there's a nice variety of food.

Just finished having lunch. The food was very good and both myself and my friend had to ask for doggie bags. HUGE portions...I can't even imagine what the amounts are for dinner. I also might add that the prices are raeasonable if not downright inexpensive for some of the meals.
