Its' been a few weeks so I thought we should continue the discussion on the best restaurants and their dishes on Bonaire. Would like to hear from others.

For the last week here's our recap...

Nov.1 - Saturday night, Wil's - This guy is the best. I always seem to try whatever his specials are and for the last 20 plus times I have dined there, I have yet to be disappointed. This time I went to the menu and tried his ribs. Damn is there anything he can't cook?

Nov. 2 – Sunday night - Pasa Bon Pizza, Joe’s always busy, so if you go I highly recommend that you stop by early to pick up the menu and place your order 20 minutes before you arrive. Due to the lack of a breeze and jet/beer lag, we decided to order take-a-way. We ordered one regular salad and one Pasa Bon Salad and had plenty. The girls ordered the veggie pizza and the guys had the meat lover’s pizza. Might be one reason they will outlive us? Everything was delicious!

Nov.3 – Monday night – Mona Lisa’s – Would have come here earlier but they are closed on Sat. and Sun. Dowue is Wil’s twin, in cooking. Had to have the lamb chops or I would not be able to leave the island. As usual they are the best. Also had the tuna sashimi, uuummm! Others had and loved the fish trio of amberjack, wahoo and barracuda. Since jet/beer lag was no longer a problem, proceed to make it one at the bar with Hans. When 2 am arrived, we left very happy!!!

Nov.4 – Tuesday night, Wil’s – We “had” to go back since we brought Sue some pecans and chocolates and she promised us a JD pecan pie. I had whatever Wil’s special was, as in the past it was the bomb! Just wish I could remember it? Then Sue mentioned her Bailey’s pecan pie for Saturday night, since this was the other couples last night. Of course she twisted my arm and we all said “YES!”

Nov. 5- Wednesday night – La Luna- Ring and Irene offer some of the best Dutch dishes. I normally have his tuna steak but let the other couple have it. Settled for the Pork tenderloin and wow it was delicious. He’s like Wil’s and Dowue’s step-brother. If true it would explain how they learned to cook.

Nov. 6- Thursday night- Stayed home and had Mexican Fiesta.

Nov. 7 Friday night- Mona Lisa, why you might ask. Because they are still closed on Sat. and Sun. and I need the fix to carry me over the weekend. Started with the tuna sashimi, uuuummm again! Then had the fish trio. WOW. After dinner it's become a tradition to close the bar with Hans.

Nov. 8 Saturday night-Wil’s, the special tonight was coconut shrimp, not one of my favorite but I decided to risk it knowing how Wil’s cooks. I was delighted. Very light in coconut and huge shrimp. Of course we had the bailey’s pecan pie and roll myself out of the place happy as a lark.

Nov. 9 Sunday night-Dona and Giorgio’s, Dona’s breakfast pizza has also become a staple for us while on island. Gorgonzola cheese, red peppers with a fried egg in the middle. Get the egg the way you like and don’t forget to ask for the hot pepper oil.

We have been to Bonaire 16 times in the last 12 years and have tried many other places others have mentioned. We like them all to a degree but as you can tell, I LOVE Wil’s, Mona Lisa and La Luna and just can’t seem to get enough.

One more week to go.

Stay tuned.

My favorites are Mona Lisa, Pasa Bon Pizza, Papaya Moon, city Cafe and the barbecue place (name is lost to my lack of brain cells tonight).

Ahh, the "Mona Lisa Four" strike again! Wish we'd been there with you, but next year for sure! Great review Ric.

Love to eat at Mona Lisa's, but will not make it there as much due to increase in their prices. :-(
Not so bad for one person, but we usually have three in our party.

Debbie, do they have their 13.00 bar menu anymore whereas you can dine outside?

Annie, Not that I noticed last trip, but they may still have it sometimes? We used to go at happy hour, early, to get the better pricing, sit on the bar side. Could order off both menus if ya wanted to. I was referring to their specials on blackboard. The fish trio special was really high from what we used to pay for it last year. Guess it is a sign of the times. Their food is really good.

Not sure the happy hour menu is still available. I would head in about 4:15pm Mon thru Fri to find out or call them. I did have a snack one day but it was just before 6:00pm. All the prices have risen, that's life... :-)

Bruce, we had newbies with us this year but we still missed you three. Planning on returning in early May '09 and we will wine and dine. BTW, our new place is right down the street from you. Scary!!!

My wife and I love to eat at Zeezicht when we are on the island. We like the open atmosphere on the terrace and the view of the harbor when we are dinning. If you prefer you can eat inside in AC…but why?

Maiky Snack (out in the kunuku) has great local food if you have a car.

Chibi Chibi has a great grilled chicken caesar salad if you want a lighter lunch. Good burgers, too...bacon cheese burgers....

I don't think Bobbyjans ribs have been as tasty this year as they have been in the past visits but the chicken sate is still fabulous. Don't get me wrong, the ribs are still very good, but not the same IMO. Didn't stop us from eating all of them up! LOL. cb

During our recent Bonaire sojourn, we ate at Papaya Moon (love those fish tacos), Pasa Bon Pizza (twice; get one with artichokes and sausage); Le Flamboyant (delicious tuna); Tipsy Seagull (never mind); Eden Beach (used to be Bongo's--the bar was out of pina colada mix!!); Guernica (is it my imagination, or have the tapas portions gotten BIGGER?); Maiky Snack (worth the drive into the kunuku, but if you want the tu tu you have to go on Friday or Sunday); and Unbelievable. The dinners that the 4 of us had there were fabulous, and the interior downstairs is gorgeous. But eat upstairs on the deck so that you can watch the sunset. We also went to Gibi's bbq at the Golden Reef, always good. And you can get seconds!!
