I may be staying @ a budget place w/only a fridge in the room (ie no kitchenette nor microwave).

I would like to keep my food budget small, not eat out too much, but also eat somewhat healthy.

What have some of you in similar situations done?

Thank you!

I would check the local grocery stores like Cultimara, Bonaire Warehouse, More for Less, the fruit markets, etc. I would also check to see if your room will have the ability to boil water. I would also check bakeries.

My focus would then be on:
a) Fruits & vegetables;
b) Salads (you could always add tuna, canned beans, or deli meats)
c) Sandwich (deli meat, local cheese, etc.)
d) Local baked goods
e) If you have boiling water, you have ramen and some instant soups
f) Hit restaurants that would leave you with extras (Boobe Jeans, Pasa Bon, Casablanca, etc.) for future meals
g) Eat at the snacks
h) Consider taking some food with you

Eat friday, saturday and/or sunday evening at Bobbejans for NAF 10,00
Go to Maike snack for a warm lunch for NAF 10
Go to Warehouse or Cultimara to buy fresh bread, salad, cheese.
Maybe you can buy a small (throw away) BBQ in one of the shops?

We like to do a baguette and Gouda cheese for lunch out at the dive spots (little cooler takes care of the Gouda) - slice the Gouda w/ dive knife on a scuba fin cutting board... is your name really "Parachute" - please tell me you served in the 101 Airborne.

The biggest way my husband and I saved money was by drinking any alcohol back at our room. So much cheaper to buy a case of Brights at the grocery store, then to buy single bottles at the bar.

We ate granola bars and pound cake for breakfast each day. Had lunches at the Divi (cheap lunch menu)! And for dinner ... Subway 1 night, KFC another, and lots of cheap (but delicious) pasta dinners at the Divi. The meals themself were not expensive ... it's when you add alcohol and/or desserts.
