The water is great and IMHO better than bottled water that you can buy.

The water on Bonaire is purified from the seawater using a reverse osmosis process (the same process used by the astronauts). It's excellent & I quite agree better then any bottled water. And you're quite correct to stay well hydrated if you're diving. We always drink copious quantities & don't forget to bring water to the dive sites..

No issues at all in my two trips to Diver's Paradise.

I did have sickness & diarrhea one morning the last time I was on Bonaire.

That said, it may have been the 22 bottles of Polar followed by a nasi goreng rather than the water.

Maybe next time that I am there I will carry on with my research.

22 bottles of Polar at one sitting? I am going to assume these were the 8 oz bottles? Thats impressive my friend.

Speaking of 8 oz or "snack beers", when we were in Bonaire in 2007, they had 12 oz ones at a very good price. This Feb/March the price was up over 30 gilders per case and the cans were again 8 OZ. When I asked about the 12 oz ones at Cash and Carry, I was told, "that must have been a special". Then just when our 5 weeks was about up, guess what?, the special was back. 12 oz polars for less than what we had paid for the 8 oz ones.

Forget the coral spawning, rainy season, and etc. I want to know the schedule for the "Polar Specials"!

Last July when at the Divi the water was horrible. Anyone been there recently that can attest to the conditions of the drinking water there?
Thanks

Don.

Don't forget that I am English and as such, used to drinking pints.

My finest hour was probably the evening that my friends and I ended up at the Great Escape.

After doing Happy Hours all over the island, Kevin indulged us with his selection of double, triple and quadruple beers.

For that night Kevin, I apologise on behalf of my friends.

Sparty.

A man after my own heart.

I have a t-shirt that says "Divers are skivers"
Why dive when the bar is open!

Hey, Antony, at least you came ... and your friends even came back even though they came extremely close to being 86ed that night.

Now, I see Belgian beer all over the island. People must have liked the idea, but the idea of driving an extra 4 kilometers was just too daunting for them.

Jennifer, I was at the Divi in May 2008. The tap water was not horrible, but it certainly wasn't my most favorite tap water either. It was just ok.

Kevin.

It was indeed a great concept and it was a shame that more people did not make the trip.

Divi makes their own water with RO. It is not from WEB. If they don't change filters in time, it can create a problem...

Why do they do this at the Divi Michael? It was so disappointing. We ended up buying water because it was so bad.

Cost and habit, probably. If you have enough consumption, it can be cheaper to run your own system. My understanding is that that was more true 15 years ago than today. A few of the northern resorts have their own water systems, too.

There's nothing inherently wrong with having a private system, it's just a matter of maintenance and adjustment to get everything working perfectly.
