Could anyone recommend some romantic, quiet restaurants that are good for honeymooners and moderately priced?

Richard's, He has a table on a pier, and you use a radio to communicate! Reservations only. Really neet!!! Ron

If you want to make resevations you have to email Michel at Chat-n-brouse. He will relay your request.

While we love Richards and go there at least once every trip (and I would highly recommend its pier table for a truly intimate/romantic honeymoon dinner), Rum Runners has one area that can be almost as intimate. It is their lower section (suggest making a reservation for it as well as it is also very popular). This area only has three tables so is more "private" than the rest of the restaurant.

Re cost (you said "moderately priced"), entrees at Richards run in the $16 - $20 range and appetizers about half that, both about the same as Rum Runners, although you can get pizza at Rum Runners (thin crust and good, but IMO not as good as Pasa Bon Pizza [BT'ers: let the debates start over this statement]) for about that price and it serves two.

There are also several other restaurants that can provide a romantic setting with excellent food. Read the various posts in this section. Bonaire regulars all have their favorites. For example, we had a very romantic dinner celebrating our 40th anniversary at Patagonia this past trip. Went midweek and shortly after sunset so they weren't crowded when we arrived and through most of our meal. Simply requested (and got) a table away from the other diners. (Prices at Patagonia are about the same as Richards and other upscale places.)

My bottom line suggestion: if you can get Richards' pier table, go there. Otherwise, almost any other place on the water can provide you what you want.

You spend $100's to get there, $100's to stay there, $100's on dive equipment and then you want to skimp on fuel for your body and mind? IMHO, if you miss Wil's, Mona Lisa's or La Luna, you will be missing the best chef's on island.

We are just finishing up our eleventh year on island, for the pass two weeks, we have enjoyed Wil's five times in two weeks. If there's a special, get it. The beef is hit or miss at every place, since it's not USDA. Remember to not go hungry and relax.

I would agree with the suggestions above and echo Rum Runners in the "Downstairs" area. I would also add It Rains Fishes and La Guernica to the list.

There are a few tables at Rum Runners (Don's Habitat) that are very romantic, but you may have to book them in advance. Last year we celebrated our anniversary there and not only did we book one of these tables but we even talked to the chef beforehand. He made our meal something special. We will always treasure that evening. They are a great crew.

Thanks so much for the pictures! I made a reservation through Liz at GRI (thanks Liz!) for that table for our anniversary dinner later this month. It looks even cooler than I pictured.

Michael, make sure you get a time when you can watch the sunset. We had a bottle of wine, some appetizers, and it was wonderful watching the sun dip below the sea. Then ordered dinner. You will love it:-)

Who's Michael? :-)

Our reservation is for 6:30pm, not sure what time the sun sets down in paradise.

Rum Runner's at Captain Don's and Richard's get my votes for your romantic dinners. If you are into wine then you should go to Capriccio and let the owners pick out a special bottle for you. They have, by far, the best wine list on the island.

We’ve been to Richard’s pier table two times (Feb 07 & Feb 08) and I want to say first that the tenderloin was absolutely delicious ( I think we had it both times!)

The first year they gave us a 2-way radio for requesting service. They were very busy and took a while to get out to us, but we had the whole evening and were not in a rush. It was great.

It was so pleasant an evening that we reserved the pier table again for this year. This time they didn’t have the radio and again were very rushed - no real problem, we have all evening and we’re on island time. Once the meal was served, we had to go to the main restaurant area and request service or hand signal to catch a server’s attention. No big deal, but an annoyance.

They had a small boat tied to the pier this year that banged against the pier every 10 – 15 seconds. That gave the whole pier a shake that became very annoying as the evening progressed. We mentioned to the server about the banging and she just said “Oh.” We didn’t stay too long after finishing our meal. So, 2007 was top-notch but we were a bit disappointed this year. The food was very good both years, but Richard’s is not inexpensive and we expected a higher level of service.

Just to let people know, it can get cool out on the pier and it’s windier than in the main restaurant – bring a light sweater or jacket just in case.

Kristen - I just came back from a week there and the best meal was at Capriccio. Since your husband is Italian I'm sure he will love it. The wine list is outstanding and very reasonably priced. The owners Lola and Andrea are passionate people and will make your night there one to remember.
