hi everybody,
this is my first post here and let me say that this forum is excellent. It's endless source of information!

We plan to visit Bonaire in January/February 2009. It's a long time from now, but Bonaire seems to be this kind of place, where you have to plan things with advance. I've been wondering, where to start at this forum and decided to do it in "Dining" area. First I have to find right place to eat and then we'll decide where to sleep ;-)

In 2007 we visited Curacao. Because of budget reasons, we were eating at one of the Snaks. We were very lucky to find one with tasty and affordable food. For less than USD 20, almost every day we had excellent dinner for 2. What's more, it was situated next to our apartment in Lagun Bay, the best snorkeling area on Curacao. This is what we're looking for also on Bonaire. Do you know any Snak which is worth of recommendation? Is there a chance for us to find such Snak close to interesting snorkeling area and close to budget accommodation?

I'll be grateful for your help!
Best regards from Poland, Bartek

Bonaire is so small that every snak is close to good snorkeling! Just had an incredible lunch at a local snak in Tera Cora..nafl 23 for two and we could not finish it all...what more can you ask!

Czesc Bartek! Dzien dobry! We're also hailing from Poland. Lived here almost 10 years, although we are Americans. We've been to Bonaire 4 times already, heading back for number 5. So we are pretty familiar with where things are.

If you will go to www.infobonaire.com you will find a wealth of information about the island. Click on Accommodations down the left side of the main page, and you can select your price range and see what accommodations are available.

If you were to book at a downtown location such as Hotel Rocheline or Bonaire Inn (which are both very reasonable), you would be within walking distance of Watta Burger, Julio's, Subway sandwich shop, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Bobbejans (on weekends). All are very budget oriented. Possibly there are some other economical places to eat in that area that we're not aware of. Perhaps the front desk staff could advise you further.

You'd be within walking distance of Divi Divi and Plaza resorts which have pretty good snorkeling. There are also scooters downtown that could be rented to get to other sites further away such as Andrea I and II and some of the southern sites like Windsock.

Bonaire is the best place for snorkeling we have ever found, and we've been all over the Caribbean. Hope your trip works out and that you have a great time!

Bartek,

One thing more...If you will look under the topic "Getting Around Bonaire," there is a subtopic called "Bonaire Road Map and Guide." It is a pretty good map of all the streets and names. This might help you to identify where some of the accommodations are located and give a general orientation to downtown.

Snak is how we spell snack. In papiamentu, we spell it like it sounds ie: ice cream is iskrim! There are exceptions, however Camera is Kodak!

This snak in Tera Cora sounds interesting...
And I'll definitely check the pages suggested by the Keaton family ;-) By the way, which part of Poland are you hailing from?
Best regards, Bartek (from Gdynia)

Bartek,

Would you believe we are in Gdynia too? Maybe we can get together sometime and you can tell us about Curacao and we can tell you about Bonaire!

Thank you Randall and Tonia for your tip. I'll check it out!

hi Glen,
as promised, here I am to let you (and others) know, that finally we brought our meeting with F. Keaton into effect. We met at La Vita restaurant in Gdynia. You should visit this place, if only anyone of you visits our city. They have great Italian food there :-)

Thanks to our meeting we've got a lot of useful information, which will help prepare our visit to Bonaire even more thoroughly.

Therefore, thank you BonairTalk! You've done great job by letting us get to know F. Keaton!

Best regards, Bartek
