I will be traveling to Bonaire for the first time in July.
I LOVE this board and and on it everyday.
What are some must try while I am there foods? I am not a too picky of an eater just not into super hot food.
Thanks!

Goat stew and Funchi (a form of Polenta), Very tasty and quite mild.

Some of the Dutch snacks are also very tasty. All I've found to be quite mildly seasoned though the texture of that one breaded 'croquette' is a tad off-putting to my tastes.

Can't say I've had a horrendous dining experience anywhere on the island, including some of the street-side Snak shoppes.

Big wheels of gouda cheese from Cultimara. Cheap, cheap, cheap compared to U.S. prices. It is sooo creamy and good! Bread at Cultimara is good, too. Bought some for toast in the mornings. Oh, their butter is excellent, too.

Coconut Macaroon cookies from the bakery at Warehouse. Not even Mom can do better.

I still miss Prisca's ice cream...sniffle.

Robin, it would be hard to find any food on Bonaire that is not great!

There is a KFC run by Ruth who came from NJ years ago...smart lady....went to Bonaire and never returned to NJ! My goal, as well.

There is also a Subway sandwich store on island if it is "fast" food you want. (not as "fast" as in the US, tho...Island time, ya know!)

You will LOVE Bonaire and all that she has to offer and she has a LOT to offer in soooo many different and eclectic ways. cb

Try every desert at Papaya Moon. Get two forks. One to eat with and one to keep other people away from your desert.

The rest of the food is not bad either.

Any thing from the Last Bite Bakery. Great cakes, quiches, brownies. Go by before it gets to late in the day, she runs out early because so many people like her items. She will also make special requests if you give her some time.

Sorry I can't remember the owners name but I do remember she is a nice/sweet young lady

Andy

If steak or grilled foods are your thing go to Casablanca. Great Argentina beef steaks and the mixed grill is wonderful...and HUGE..enough to feed two easily.

MUST HAVE- fish pizza at Pasa Bon - no kidding it is fabulous and I CRAVE it. I was reluctant to try it but was instantly hooked!
Cactus BLue is also our favorite place to eat. Very nice people, great service and FABULOUS food - esp tuna.

I like those fried stuff pastries snacks that you get at Cultimare or the grocery next to Mike's Chat & Browse and some local groceries. They are filled with either goulda, ham& cheese, chicken or "meat" or "breakfast". Not expensive, pick up and eat.
There is a name for them, they are made by local people and delivered fresh everyday, but you have to get them early before they are gone.

Anyone on the Island last week get a desert that they thought tasted funny? I don't want to name the source but we purchased three pieces of the same item and they all had a metalic taste. Not nearly up to the quality we had experienced in the past from this vendor.

Oops, I forgot to mention the Pizza @ Pasa Bon, fish is one of my favorite's.
Also, do remember you are on island time. If you go hungry and get your food after waiting 45-60 minutes, its' your fault. So do not go hungry! Just go with the flow. Reservations are highly recommended at all the restaurants mentioned.

El Fogon Latino. Great Colombian food. We enjoy sitting by the kitchen. The smell is a meal in itself. The really hot sauce is served as a condiment so you don't have to eat it.

Also a favorite was Numero Ocho (our room number). If you have a kitchen try out cooking some of the marinated meats from the local markets. We also bought Plantain, let it sit until it was black and fried it up.

There is a great fruit and vegetable store on the left as you head North out of town (It is the lime green store on the west side of kaya grandi near the bicycle shop slightly north of the center of town). They have a great selection of tropical fruits that we never see at home - inexpensive too. Best fresh produce that we found while in Bonaire.

Robin, I have to second El Fogon Latino for their seafood chowder alone.

Great recommendation on the White Chocolate Ice Cream bars at Lisa Gas. I read the prior post and tried one myself today. Got to add $2 to each tank of gas from now on.

I second the vote for the conconut macaroons as well.

Wonder if my jeans will fit when I get home?

I love ice cream and plan on taste testing all that I can find!
No worries about the jeans that is why they say to wear sun dresses right?
Still to far to start a count down but the excitement sure is there!
Thanks for all the input!
