We just returned after 2 weeks on Bonaire and I thought I would offer some comments on dining. I must say that this year we did not have a single bad experience. We eat most breakfasts and lunches in our time-share unit and eat dinners out. Although service varies somewhat I might suggest you go with the flow while on Island. If you want faster service; eat early like 6 -6:30PM and always ask for your check as soon as you are done.

Donna & Georgios - We had 2 great meals there. They have entertainment Fri., Sat, and Sun. in addition to good food. The singer on Sat. is very good. Our suggestions are the Fish Platter, Filet Mignon on the skewer, and the Gnocci.

Papaya Moon - Good Tex-Mex food with very friendly service. The Owner Ray is always present and insures you are satisfied. We really liked the fish fajitas. The desserts are probably the best on the Island,

It Rains Fishes - We did not go there the past 2 years but what a pleasant surprise this year. It has been completely redecorated and the menu is superb. The grilled fish is very good and their calamari is wonderful. Probably the best overall service we had and that is a great change in itself.

Lions Den - We had a fine meal there and they can accomodate large groups. We had 10 people and everyone had a different meal and all said their's was best.

Cactus Blue - A wonderful meal for all 6 of us. Our friends had the steak and said it was the best they have had on the Island. The fish, Wahoo of course, was excellent. If you want real Key Lime pie visit them. They grow the Key Limes at the rear of the restaurant and the pie is as good as it gets.

City Cafe - If you want a varied menu and lots of action this is the place to be. Their fish sandwiches are huge and delicious. I recommend Happy Hour followed by a burger or fish sandwich. I understand the ribs are good too but do not have first hand knowledge.

Richards - Best view of all and very consistent fine food. I had Wahoo Florentine and it was done to perfection. Our friends had Land & Sea and they said it was perfect.

Kon-Tiki - We went there for lunch and the fish sandwich is the largest I have ever seen. Four people ate , had beer and tea and with tip the bill was only $60. This is a great get-away for a good al fresco lunch or dinner.

Calabas - We ate breakfast 3 times at the Divi Calabas and as always it was good. This is a great spot for the Continental folks to get an early breakfast. They are open by 7:00AM and you can get anything you want and do not have to hurry; just enjoy your first morning on Bonaire.

George,
could you give us an update on the Divi Timeshares? Someone is asking on the accomodations thread. When we were there in May, they were changing out the furniture and "wall" between the kitchen and bedroom area. We were told new appliances/kitchen was next on the agenda, then the bathroom. We'll be back in May again to see for ourselves! Yay!

Judy, the Divi timeshares are a work in progress. I believe all the furniture is now in the units and the wall screens installed. Many kitchens have new cabinets and dinnerware. We were in 720 and it did but 713 did not. For some unexplained reason they have put a large potted plant in each unit, this "jungle just gets in the way. We moved ours to the small table next to the new rattan chair.

We were told the new bath and kitchens would begin installation in March/April. Rein of RCI said it would take one week for each unit to be completed. All the necessary supplies are on the property just awaiting installation.

I must add that the outside area were very nicely maintained as usual and the property looked good. All painting is complete and the area behind Calabas is also cleaned up. They pressure washed Calabas while we were there and also pressure washed the walk around the timeshare pool. The only maintenance item to be taken care of was the outdoor shower by the pool.

By the way, a new grocery opened across from Divi and although small it had most of the daily supplies needed. Their prices were less than Cultimara or Warehouse. It is a good place for beer, milk, beer, snacks, and more beer. Also, they have fresh bread every morning.

Thanks George, We had new furniture (and the giant plant)! We put it on the table too. We still had old headboards and wall partition. Good to hear they're still working on these items. We like coming back each year to see what project was completed. This past year it was the roof and new furniture. I guess the lower units are used more than others so they're harder to find a week open for remodeling.

We were there right after they opened the grocery store and to say the least, the inventory was "interesting". Everything from doors to toilets to groceries.

They've been doing alot to improve the property and we're always happy to see how nice the place looks since Sarah has taken over the management.

Can't wait to get there in May; glad your trip was a good one too.
