Hi,

For us, as for many people, the diving experience on Bonaire is nicely complimented by the dining experience!

Our trip over Xmas and New Year's was no exception. We live in Boston, and have lived in San Fran, we love great food and have high standards.

Here are are reviews--

EXCELLENT
Wil's--he is a master. Always something interesting and extremely well executed. Great service. Drinks could use an actual shot of alcohol but they taste great! Desserts are fantastic.

Plazita Limena--extraordinary food in a great setting. Shrimp rice (like paella), Grilled 1/2 chicken, Chicken fettuccine were out of this world. Service fantastic. The owner warm and inviting. Nice setting. We ate here last which was too bad because we would have returned and ordered the exact same three things!

Warung Louise--Debbie has the hottest ticket in town. She was fully reserved every night for the week. We had reserved before going to the Island and glad we did. Shrimp dish, Pork dish, sateh, egg rolls, desserts, were all excellent. Loved the menus and hip style of the place. Service very good.

VERY VERY GOOD (and a value)
El Fogon Latina--any seafood with garlic. Add the yucca and the tostones and don't forget, DO NOT forget, the seafood chowder.

Bobbejan's--get the platter--best deal for dinner, and lunch the next day, on the Island! Don't forget the grilled corn!

Good
Papaya Moon--Best 2 for 1 Happy hour with actual alcohol in the drinks. Rum Runner and 1800 marg are great. Carnita quesadilla for app. Pork tacos, chipotle steak are excellent. Pork Mole needs work, I am a huge mole fan and this did not stack up. More mole flavor, less heat is in order. Service is great. People raved about the apple pie dessert, we had no room!

Donna and Giorgio's Pizza--much better than Pasa Bon. Love the new location on the water.

Not good
Cactus blue--over priced, not well-executed. Service ok. Try Papaya Moon instead, or Wil's!

Mambo Jambo--this place won't last long.

I confess, we like FUN, spicy, creative food. We don't go to the Island to eat French, Italian, Big roast beef dinners or poached salmon. That is why you won't see some of other people's favorites on my list. They are good places just not our style on vacation.

Also, our 12 YO son was happy at all of these places, there was always something he wanted.

Thanks so much for your honest and concise reviews!

I haven't come across Plazita Limena in all my Bonaire research...where is it located? We're headed down next month and will have some real foodies with us--the shrimp rice sounds yumm-o and we're always looking to try something new. We're also looking forward to checking out Wil's.

Thanks again!

Rebecca

it is right on the main drag in town, across from Warung Louise and the plaza that is there. Just down from City Cafe but across the street.

Next to Wil's it was the best meal we had. If they were located in Mass. we would go there often. Not many on-island restaurants I can say that about. I can say that about Wil's and Fogon Latina too.

Thanks!

Plazita Limena is where Seahorse Cafe used to be. My friends say their ribs are the best in town. I like their ceviche. It's a great lunch spot but if the medical school kids are there, plan a LONG lunch. Service can be slow. Lovely owners, cool refreshing setting and quiet. There is a nice doggie who comes by so please leave a little meat / chicken for her.

PLimena: The shrimp rice dish sounded uninspired on the menu, my husband got it and I had a taste. It was packed with both shrimp and flavor. A must.

The bread is served with garlic butter to spread on--my son devoured it and we had to get more.

While we were eating, the owner, a tiny friendly woman, walked by with a HUGE wahoo, just caught as "catch of the day"...gotta love that!

She has beautiful brick ovens for the grilling and roasting. The menu is a Peruvian slant with grilling meats a huge aspect. I love roast chicken like no tomorrow but it has to be great, I am picky. But when it is good, it is sublime. PL was great. I got the plantains and yucca as sides. With the chimichurri (green) sauce it was heaven.

NB: They also serve dinner.

Man, I miss it already.

Wow--this is not helping my PBE!!! Is Plazita open for Lunch and Dinner? Anyone know what days it is closed?

It sounds like it is right up our alley--can't believe we've missed it on the past two trips!

Thanks again!

As predicted, Mambo Jambo has closed. If I am not mistaken, it will be turned into commercial space..the end of an era so to speak..

Lola,
Where is El Fogon Latina? I'm not familiar with that one.

Hi,

It's on Nikiboko Zuid. It’s about 50 yards off of Kaya Industria. Turn right at the intersection where China Nobo is located and it’s on the right. Closed on Tuesdays, open lunch and dinner 11 AM till 10 PM.
