Papaya Moon is now almost a year old. We used to eat at Croccantino and just have never made it back there. Until tonight. The setting is as lovely as ever. The good news is the new owners really care, almost all the food was really, really good. The mood was light and friendly; all the customers were having a good time.

The pork tenderloin was cooked as ordered--really pink inside...and tender. The fish in the fajitas was fresh. The black beans came out of a saucepan, not a can, and.instead of being a gloppy mass, were crunchy and well seasoned..

The Texas owners are affable and really thinking about succeeding. Reading glasses were offered when I forgot mine. Bug spray was whisked over at the first ankle nibble.

New items are being added to the menu. The "walking stick" appetizer was terrific. You want mixed chicken and beef fajitas? No problema. And the desserts are amazing--this from a non-dessert eater.

After dinner, Ray, one of the co-owners, came over to ask if we had ANY complaints. It was actually hard to think of one. This from someone who usually can.

Though here are 2 late-night nitpicks from the other 5 in our small crowd: the green peppers in the quesadillas could have been a bit more cooked. And the fajitas a tiny bit more "zingy," whatever that means...more sauce? more onions? We leave it to the chefs to put their toques back on and consider the question.

But we WILL be back to check.

While in Bonarie in Feb 2007, all of the tourist brochures listed Croccantino. Not knowing Croccantino had become Papaya Moon, we made reservations. We had our hearts set on Croccantino's cuisine. Were not really interested in TexMex when we showed up and discovered that the restaurant had changed over. But we tried it anyway. What a surprise! The best TexMex we ever had. We went back for a second time. Can't wait to go back in Feb 2008. We hope that they are doing well. The owners were very gracious.

I was there a week ago (have yet to post trip report).
Had Chipotle Beef inside crisp flour tortilla on top of a bed of mash potatoes that had a Satey paste\sauce on it. Dee-lish!

I just got back from 10 days on Bonaire. Papaya Moon is one of our favorites !! The HH 2 for 1 is great (Pink Panties for my Husband and Ultimate Margaritta for me) Our food is always good and plentiful (I like to have leftovers for lunch the next day) AND then I finally tried their Famous Apple Pie - OMG was that deeeelish !!! I dream about it now ! Can wait - 7 more weeks and I will be back in Bonaire and back at the Moon.
