Ate there tonight (the monday all you can eat grill night).

The meat was grilled to oblivion. The pork chop could not be cut. The steak was like shoeleather. The chicken was passable.

Save your $$ for Capriccio. For anyone used to decent quality grill, it will disappoint.

I have lived on Bonaire for almost four years. I have never had the "grill night" at Casablanca...however, when my husband and I want one of the best filet mignon's (tenderloin) on island we head for Casablanca on a regular basis. All you can eat grill night might not be worth it...but if you're looking for a good steak their filets are awesome. (Their pasta alfredo with shrimp ain't too bad either!). Don't cut out Casablanca if you're looking for more than just an all you can eat grill night.

Hi Philip,

How many people were there? We had the "grill night" back in July and there might have been 3 other tables being served. I second your view of the food, waste of time and money. Other meals we have had there were great! Just avoid their "grill night".

We had Ribeye at Casablanca on our 9th trip in September that was outstanding.

I recommend the 'offshoot' of Casablanca, Patagonia. It is owned by the former managers of Casablanca, Pablo and Inez. (I think this is right, someone correct me if not).

The food is awesome and the view of the harbor can't be beat ! The filet is to die for !

Inez and her family couldn't be better hosts.

On "grill night" you also can order off the menu and still see the slide show. You are not locked into the allyoucaneat bill of fare.

Philip,

Did you send the first serving back, asking for 'better' cooked meat? I would guess such a request would have been honored: most restaurants do that.

Ah, yes, Glen, you speak the truth....CT was a former stomping ground. Could add another state's initials to the end of your MGNYCCT but I won't reveal that without permission from the party to whom we are referring! LOL. cb

Noticeable that every evening recently that I've driven past Casablanca it has had many empty tables, while Cactus Blue has been completely full.
Guess people vote with their feet here as well.
this is probably why Coco's place, the Japanese and Zeezicht are usually nearly empty. People who get bad service don't go back, and word gets around.

I have eaten at Casablanca a few times over the years and agree with the OP that the mixed grill is not that great but on other nights the fillet mignon with pepper sauce was wonderful as were other dishes. The service has always been excellent and personable.

I also recently went to Patagonia, another Argentinian place on Bonaire linked with Casablanca as I have been told, and while the setting and service ranks among the most charming we have received on Bonaire, the food was really bad. Perhaps they had an off night but it was so off that we will never return. The fillet my wife had and my meat both tasted like lighter fluid, LITERALLY. The sides were delicious. I decided to get a piece of chocolate cake for dessert and the cake tasted like bad freezer burn. For the same price, we cooked an entire chocolate cake the next night in our hotel room and it was better. Very disappointing. All that said, I really wanted to like Patagonia. The service and atmosphere are really nice!

Scubadobadoo,

That was our experience with Patagonia last March. We REALLY wanted to love it as we do the owners. Then we discovered Pablo was off island. So we'll give it another try this year.

Casablanca - Filet with Pepper sauce...my favorite. Kelly??? :-)

Like Phil, I was incredibly disappointed by the "all you can eat" night food. I'd been there on my first visit to Bonaire when the original owners were still there and the food was absolutely phenomenal. I might give it another try the next time I'm onisland, but will pass on the Monday night special.

I have eaten at Casablanca both before and after the change of owners. I think it was a bit better before the change but I still think the steaks are great. I have gone on 'Grill Night" with others in the group and ordered off the regular menu...which I found to be a wise decision on my part. Skip the grill night and go on an off night for a good steak dinner. I have not yet tried Patagoina but will make it a point to get there this year.
