My husband & I will be returning to Bonaire in Sept. and we were crushed to learn that our favorite place for lunch - the Lost Penguin - had closed. Since we can no longer get our bacon cheeseburgers there, we were interested in other's opinions as to what establishment has the best burgers on Bonaire. Thanks for your help!

We like the bacon cheeseburgers at Lions Den. You can choose to have yours with fries or fruit salad for a side. And the sunsets are a nice bonus!

I'll second that Susan...Lion's Den has the best burger! :-)

Don't be too quick to write off your bacon cheeseburger. The restaurant that is now where the LP use to be has a good BCB, bet it's very similar. And yes we really did take a picture of the BCB in that restaurant...makes a great slide in my slide show, it's labeled " A real cheeseburger in paradise". :-)

Our son Phillip votes for the "Dude" burger at Den Lamans Restaurant

Roger and a friend ordered medium "cheese" burgers at Den Laman in June. When they got them, it was real "blood rare" and they forgot to put cheese on it. We asked them to please re-cook. They gave it back to them on the same bloody buns...still no cheese. After we had finished they brought them 2 slices of American cheese. We told them that we were finished and that not to charge us for cheese burgers only burgers. He told us he had brought us the 2 slices cheese so we had "cheese" burgers! I ordered a fish sandwich w/pesto sauce...you guessed it, no pesto sauce! No, we did not go back again during the 3 weeks we were there.

Div's Chibi Chibi has outrageous Bacon Cheese Burgers, too...and terrific fries to go with the burger. Excellent....order it at the beach bar shack and eat it on the beach by the water...or, you can go up to Chibi Chibi and eat in the outdoor restaurant, itself. Joe and I are usually "in the water" at all times and come out for lunch....the BCB and fries. Yum! Carole

What was the date you had the bad burger at Den Laman? They have changed management recently and if it happened on the new watch, I will let Sandy know and it will be remedied...

The good news is that the management has changed since then and it will not happen again. The new manager has made many changes, all for the good and it appears to be working well. Also, I vote yes for the papaguyo (the former penguin) double burger! It was the first time I was tempted to ask for a doggy bag when ordering a hamburger.

My first trip to Bonaire was in 1991 and we stayed at SD. The Green Parrot had the best burgers I have ever tasted. I miss that place! Now it is Lions Den without a doubt. Great food and views too. They make a killer potato soup too! Be there in December staying at Buddy's. Can't wait.

Whether under the old management or the current management, the staff at Den Lamans has taken tremendous care of us and the food has always been top notch. More importantly, the staff has treated our son Phillip [age 14] like royalty--especially Carlos. If they ever began serving their lunch menu at dinnertime of a regular basis, We may eat there everynight. It is just that some nights, We do not feel like eating fancy. Would almost re-create the Green Parrot atmosphere. Our son, the "Dude" says Den Lamans is the best.

Jim

Jim,

We have never been turned down for the lunch menu at diner - just ask for it, that's what we do.

I agree with Michael. Sandy seems to be top notch. In July, we enjoyed several means at Den Lemans.

Hopefully, Sandy can keep up her energy and enthusiasm. She is s hoot......

Dave Goodwin.

Best burgers, cheese or otherwise. MINE. I buy the beef from Cultimara, Warehouse, etc. If it is red, no fat, all the better. I buy in Kilos. Ha 2.2 lbs to a Kilo, makes some burgers. Cultimara has the best hamburger buns, they are not Strohman's, all the better. Bacon, it's universal. Well, at least on Bonaire. God, I love the smell of cheeseburgers on Bonaire in the morning.

Carole, I've never been to Chibi's. I will definitely go there in December (not rubbing it in), well maybe. Thanks.

I have two favorites... one is the beach bar at Eden Beach. Very good and with gouda cheese if you ask.

My other favorite is the restauranta at Buddy's whose name eludes me right now, I went there with Cynde on one of our dives with Martin. they were huge and dripping down our faces.... mmmm good burger.

And of course I love Whattaburger. lol

If you go to the burger place at buddy's, be sure to NOT throw fruit off out of the restaurant to the water...it may hit a diver! lol!

I agree on whattaburger too, if you need a quick fix in the middle of the afternoon.

Another good burger is Julios, on the corner of Kaya Grande...at the end of the road:-)

Kelly - when you mentioned your dives w/ Martin - We dove w/ a Martin a year ago January from Belmar's dive shop (which works w/ Buddy's) - same DM? Great guy - really into his profession.

Corey, yes probably the same Martin. He's a doll, Cynde and I both fell in love with him! He did a video of our dive which was the coolest thing ever. It was raining and the camera wasn't working right, but he kept trying and we got some great footage and a great trip souvenier. Add a big giant greasy burger onto that and it was happiness on a platter !

I really enjoyed the burgers at Stiflers. The Lion's Den is a great place to eat, but I thought their burgers were small compared to others in town. Maybe I was just too busy looking at the water from the Lion's Den deck..

Alas, Chris, I believe Stiflers "lives no more", as they say. Shame, too. cb

By far, Stiflers had the best burgers. I was so sad when they closed.

Ode to Stiflers: Burger Heaven!

The burgers in the Stifler's picture are insane! So sorry I never got there before they closed.

I second Carole's vote on the Chibi Chibi burgers, and Kelly, you can get them with Gouda there also.

Dan

Mmmm--I'll bring more mini Snickers bars if you'll feed me gouda chee' burgers!
