Hi All! First of all thanks so much to all of you experts for helping us 1st timers, I just love this site, we are going in just 7 days... and we can't wait! Question: what are recomnmendations to dine outside/waterfront? Also, for indoors dining do most places have A/C or not? It is it better to pick restaurants with A/C in July? We're from Texas so we're used to hot weather . Just looking for guidance on where to go if we wan to eat near the water or whether we should steer towards the indoor spots with A/C. Thanks....

Most restaurants are open air/cafe style. Some places have indoor A/C dining but you won't need it. I am from California and usually catch a chill in the evening no matter what time of year I go.Lots of restaurants on the waterfront, just to name a few, Richards, LaGuernica, Rains Fishes, etc...I'm sure more people will kick in here with suggestions. You have LOTS of dining choices some great restaurants aren't waterfront ones so be sure to try some of those also (Cactus Blue, Casablanca etc.)Enjoy your trip and let us know how it went when you return.

People always seem to forget Rum Runners at Capt. Don's for waterfront dining. Great view, huge tarpon in the water beneath you, pretty good food including brick oven, thin crust pizzas (after 3pm, I think). Lunch there is pretty good as well as dinner. Lion's Den at Buddy Dive next door is overlooking the water, too. Quite a bit pricier than Rum Runners, though.

Oh, I don't know about that, Scott, I can get a bacon bleu burger at Lion's Den for same costs as Rum Runner's last time I went. Pricier is a matter of what you order, some of their selections are right in line with Runner's. Now, I haven't tried the brick oven pizzas yet at Runner's, something to think about for next trip. :-)

We did not have any problem dining out with or without A/C--actually A/C was never a consideration. Bugs love me and one establishment was kind enough to provide me with some add'l bug spray so I could really relax and enjoy the dining experience

I personally like dining outside, hot or not. I get cold in A/C and feel all closed in, so I opt out of indoors unless I am with those who prefer it and am outnumbered, then I will go inside, but not really needed in my opinion. Not all places have a/c either and quite a few I really like don't have it, and that is fine by me. There is something special about sitting outside watching the sunset and enjoying a good drink and dinner with my hunny.

Pizza..Did I hear Pizza?? I believe my views on this may be in a minority here but if you like a thin crust pizza, the best is at Rum Runners.
On Bonaire I'll dine al fresco (especially oceanside) anytime over inside with A/C.

Richard's, La Guernica, It Rains Fishes, The Chibi, Patagonia, Den Laman, Donna and Georgio's, Salsa, City Cafe, and the others above. Have a great time Rebecca. We'll be down at the same time. See you underwater. I'll be that guy with a mask and flippers.

Jim, that's too funny. "that guy with a mask and flippers" :-)

Pizza, well I am a fan of Pasa Bon Pizza, so I am throwing that out here too as it was not mentioned. The only place I get pizza on island. :-) Linda and crew there are sweet and I just enjoy their company and pizza at least twice a week. :-)

Hi Rebecca!
Where are you from in Texas? We are in beautiful Waxahachie (Dallas area), where we might as well build an ark because of all the dadgum rain we've had the past two months! We were first time Bonaire divers about 3 weeks ago, and we are having the BW's (Bonaire Withdrawal) reeeeeally bad!
In fact, we are plotting and planning to get another week of diving down there this next month. Bonaire is not "Texas hot". There is always a breeze blowing, too, so it just never got what we consider "hot" the whole time we were down there. Leave the hot rollers or curling iron at home though. Not worth the space it takes up in the suitcase. Everywhere is super casual, too. I'm talking shorts!

Rebecca and Jane, there are quite a few Texas people on BT. We are about 100 miles north of Houston.
Jane is right Bonaire is not "Texas Hot" and it is much drier too.
Most any place you eat on Bonaire is good. Some are ocean front and some not, but the atmosphere is great no matter where,
Have a good time on Bonaire, she is special.

Andy

Don't forget about Le Bistro...I haven't had my coffee yet and for some reason the name isn't sounding right. Fabulous French Onion soup, and other dishes. They have inside AC dining, and outside open air. Also, la Flambouyant in town. Wonderful open air area with wonderful little lights. If there is a breeze, you will feel it. Great French Onion Soup as well, and never had a bad meal there:-)

Italian, go to Cappricios.

Rebecca, as you can see, lots and lots of choices.

However, for the life of me I cannot understand all you folks who don't think it's hot...and Rosanne, chilled at night? You are all crazy I swear...lol! I had a hot flash at Cactus Blue last summer and almost slid off my chair...lol! In fact, I think I've had a hot flash at just about every restaurant on Bonaire...lol!

Fellow Texans -

It is gratifying to know that there are so many "Bonaire Texans."

Not to start an argument, because after all we are currently planning our 5th trip to Bonaire and go no where else for top-flight snorkeling and relaxation, but we would respectfully suggest that when the breeze dies on Bonaire it is, indeed, hotter than most places in Texas (grew up in West Texas where 110F is common in summer). The combination of humidity and proximity to the equator (with corresponding intense sun) makes for some pretty impressive heat indices.

What is ironic is that the first time we went to Bonaire was is late September and, in fact, the breeze was almost non-existent. We broiled. And yet here we are planning our next trip.

We offer our perspective only so that if some newbies plan on going during the time of no breeze (mid-September to mid-October?), they are prepared.

The good news is that the seas are especially calm and sea entry and snorkeling is particularly easy and the charm of Bonaire isn't diminished one bit.

Kini - I've been called "cold blooded" before:-)! I always wear long sleeves at night and the only time I have been truly hot was in the middle of the afternoon at the Donkey Sanctuary. My blood has thinned living all these years in Cali!

Rosanne, lol...I think I have been "comfortable" on bonaire...uh...once...in the bedroom with the AC on full blast...now, hot, I've come close to heat stroke a few times...last trip, January, was the 'mildest' I've experienced it...it was 9AM, and I thought i was going to pass out, so I took a cold shower in my clothes...showed up at Ms. Porter's front door dripping wet, she looked at me and said "did you go swimming????" I just looked at her and said no, I just had a "moment." lol!

OK, now that I'm awake,...Bistro de Paris is the name of the French place next to Pasa Bon pizza...

I must tell you though, that I think "sweater weather" is anything under 70*F. We set our AC on between between 76-78* and are happy (we have ceiling fans, too). Hey Charles! Are you a former yankee? lol! Seriously, maybe we just hit Bonaire when it was particularly pleasant, but we thought the weather was gorgeous! Breezes (and sometimes WIND!) were ever present. But then again, I've been to Seattle three times with nary a drop of rain, too, so I have yet to experience all this gloomy weather everyone talks about up there.

LOL Kini... I'm picturing Susan's face as you stood dripping on her doorstep. ROFLMAO (snort):-):-):-)

Oh, and I agree with Kini... I've been there 3 timies and thought I'd melt each time but the worst was my first time there during a wind reversal... no breeze... I emailed home and told them the license plates should read "where it's hotter than he77" rather than Divers Paradise. But then, I'm rather thick blooded being from Wisconsin.

And not to hijack this thread further... I agree with all the dining recommendations - La Guernica, It Rains Fishes were both great on the waterfront... and Bistro de Paris, Pasa Bon Pizza, Casablanca, and Bobbie Jan's are all great food too - don't miss them cuz they aren't waterfront!
